United Leaves Dog Bleeding & Sick, Won’t Pay Vet Bill Unless Passenger Agrees To Hush Up

The Facebook page the dog-owner made after United asked her to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
So the airline mistreats your beloved pet and you end up with thousands of dollars in veterinary expenses to keep the dog alive. Eventually the airline agrees to cover those vet bills, but only if you agree to not say anything publicly about what happened. What do you do?

For one passenger and pet owner, her response to that offer was to create the United Airlines Almost Killed My Greyhound Facebook page.

She tells NBC Bay Area [Warning: Obnoxious auto-play video at that link] that she used United’s PetSafe animal shipping service to help her relocate her dog and other pets when she moved from San Diego to Boston in July.

During the trip, she claims that United workers were spotted kicking her dog’s crate to move it around the tarmac, and that, in spite of the program’s promise to limit exposure to limit animals’ exposure to temperatures above 85 degrees to no more than 45 minutes, the animals sat out in the 94-degree Houston sun for longer than that during a so-called “comfort stop.”

When the greyhound arrived in Boston, the woman says the crate “was filled with blood, feces, urine” and that her dog was “in full heat stroke. All of the blankets were filled with blood. She was urinating and defecating blood. She was dying, literally, right in front of me.”

United might find out that the financial consequence of their mishandling of her precious dog and callous behavior afterwards might cost them a whole lot more then the vet bill.

Well, unless it is an airline nearly killing a pet.

I applaud her for not accepting a non-disclosure agreement. There are several times that I have seen NDA's used by companies to make sure that no one ever hears all the evils. I hope this woman is able to get the vet bill paid by United, without having to keep her mouth shut. I don't think that these NDA's should even be legal. Good for her.

And I hope that her dog recovers fully.

I looked it over and send a copy to my attorney friend.
My question was "Do you see my name anywhere on this?"
His reply "No"
My reply "That's what I thought too"

Actually, I am sure that you weren't. I am sorry that your wife lost her job after all those years. And companies these days wonder why employees no longer have a commitment to their employers.

But my question regarding that situation, where you are fired and then they ask you to sign one....what causes anyone to sign it? I mean, you are fired. What can they do to you? Normally, a company will have you sign one at hiring, and will hold it over you all the years you work there, or if you want to leave. But at the time of being let go, I don't see where they have leverage.

I have always thought that if I had a good case against a company, and they agreed to a settlement but required that I had to keep my mouth shut, that I would reject it and go to trial, making all the details very public. Or come back with my own settlement that would require them to stand up to it publically for my not going to trial. I cannot imagine the things that we don't know because of these NDA's.

deny or cut your severance pay, and I suppose that people who really need the severance money will just sign.

the decision would be to sign. But the point was that it was his wife who had to sign, and he was not included in that nondisclosure agreement. And being a spouse, he would know the details.....so without anything holding HIM back from talking, there was not much they could do. So, she gets the severance, and unemployment benefits if they apply, then he could talk and it would not be anything that they could do something about.

That is what makes it fun.

Sign and take the money. If they sue to get it back, we have the right of discovery and the last thing they want is the can of worms they wanted hushed up to be brought out into the open. He also added that whoever wrote up that agreement didn't run it past their legal department. They wanted her to keep her mouth shut even during an official audit/investigation. Which is illegal.

Monsters!

My dog would be emotionally destroyed by rough treatment like that. Poor, precious dog; they completely misled the owner and I hope this goes viral.

I hope the dog recovers.

I never want to put my dog on an airplane. I have read to much at this point.
