Any Veterinary Assistants here?

Does or has anyone worked as a Veterinary Assistant? If so what are your thoughts on the career? I've found I've always been able to do fairly well with animals. Also I've read DoL statistics that said the demand for Veterinary Assistants is supposed to grow by 36% by 2018. I'm currently looking for a certification program in my area.

But do you like them? How about barfing, bleeding, and/or diarrhea-spewing animals? Do you think you can routinely put a thermometer up dog's or cat's butts? How do you feel about birds and snakes and gerbils? Can you picture yourself mopping out cages? These are the kind of questions you should be asking yourself, not what the market is going to be for jobs. Veterinary medicine is medicine, a life of service to the sick and the dying. And in this case, the sick and dying of many species. It can be emotionally draining, physically demanding work. I don't want to discourage you if you feel it might be a good match for you, but I also don't want to see you spend money on a program for a job you may hate no matter the pay.

Says the woman paying off $100k in student loan debt for a degree she can't use because she hates that line of work now.

And, no, I wasn't a vet tech!
