Does you dog do any of these?

We have a 12 yo American Eskimo. After eating, she will go onto a rug or carpet and wipe her mouth on the rug.
The better the food (eg. roast beef/cooked vegies vs plain dog food) the more she wipes her mouth.
Another thing is in the morning right after getting out from under our bed she will lick her front paws and then wipe her fact/eyes until she has removed all the 'sleepies' from both eyes. She obviously also knows a whole lot of words. (eg. this morning I was getting planning on going to the store and my wife said "reckon you can take someone with you?, and she immediately jumped up and went to the garage door to wait on me to go)
Just curious about other dogs 'strange' habits.

2. My dog Penny is half Amerian Eskimo, but doesn't do the wiping thing.

She does adore snow, and has the single-minded determination that our last dog, a Samoyed, had, but not to the same degree. She's also half Cavalier King Charles spaniel and looks a lot like one.

One thing Penny does that I've never seen in other dogs is the jump-swirls when she's about to receive people food. These swirls remind me of the lutzes performed by figure skaters. The better the food smells to her, the more swirls. We've seen her do 8 or 9 for bits of salmon.

4. Our Samoyed did that too - ate everything

Once I found what I thought was a long green snake in the back yard.
It turned out to be a knee sock that she had eaten and subsequently barfed out.

eat a little more, walk around the yard again then come back and finish her food and, again, one more stroll around the yard.
Every night, she does this in 3's, don't know why, but it's cute as heck.

He takes a bite, then goes about 4 ft. away to chew, then goes back for another bite. Sometimes he gets distracted and forgets he is eating and tear off after whatever distracted him.

She also wipes the sleepers out of her eyes, but I don't think she licks the paws first. She loves routine, and has a cute morning one - she waits in her bed on the chair for me to come to her and pet her. Only when she has been adequately greeted will she consider getting up to go outside. She's a two year old Cavalier King Charles.

Our Sam used to wipe his face.

9. Yoshi only seems to want to wipe his mouth on me

At least he only does it after a drink of water rather than food. He's such a tidy careful eater though whether it's his chow or a treat no food molecules seem to get on the outside of him. Water though, that's another story. When he drinks from a bowl (he often drinks directly from the bathtub faucet, so that's not a problem) he stuffs his whole snout in the water, splashes it all over the place, and comes out with practically his whole face soaking wet... and goes directly to me to wipe his dripping mouth somewhere on me getting my pants drenched.

As for the eye boogies, I wish he'd wipe them himself so I don't have to do the damp paper towel at some point during the day to clean out his eye boogies otherwise he'll "accidentally" wipe them on me or somewhere he knows would disgust me like my pillow.

He's very fussy about his feet though which is typical of Akitas, and I wonder if it's also typical of other "winter" dog breeds. It seems to make sense to me that it would be in their genes to keep their feet tidy and their nails chewed short if the breed comes from a snowy icy climate. All three of my Akitas were/are feet fussy constantly licking them clean (though Boo and Yoshi love getting them dirty and Kato wouldn't dream of stepping in anything that might adhere to his feet). They aren't keen on anyone touching or otherwise handling their feet (Boo didn't even like it if he caught me just gazing at one of his feet and get that stink eye expression and hide the foot I seemed to have interest in under his body). But they do chew down and smooth their own toenails regularly... I've never had to clip any of their toenails except for those dingle claws that just hang there a few inches farther up their front legs and seem to have no purpose. I had Yoshi for quite some time before I realized he has no dingle claws. Since he was supposed to be a show dog, they were surgically removed when he was a baby. I had no idea that show dogs had their kooky dingle claws removed. I can't remember whether or not Boo had his. I don't remember ever seeing any on him, but I know Kato had them... he tore one of them once and had to wear a bandage for about a week that he seemed very proud of and wanted to show to everyone.

his mate used to lick his whole face for him but he seems to have learned to do it himself now.

Now, the eye boogers tend to get wiped on one of us!

14. My boxer wipes her face on the carpet or the sofa after eating...

Feb 2014

When she comes inside from a potty break, if it's been raining, even though I towel her off, she rolls around on her back for about 5 minutes wiping her own back off. She also cleans my dober/hounds eyes and ears EVERY DAY. Sometimes twice a day. He loves it. He will only occassionally clean one of her ears, and half-assed at that

The boxer is also very, very fussy with her feet. They are white, the rest of her is fawn. She obsessively keeps them bright white. Horrified if they get dirty.

My absolute favorite thing she does though...if the dober/hound is begging for food, and I say, "carly, he's bothering me" she will run over and start fussing at him. It's so funny. He completely ignores her, but it entertains me.

My fave thing about the dober/hound. He sits on the sofa like a person. Laid back against the back, legs straight out in front of him. And he's a big dog (115 lbs), so from behind, he's as tall as a person would be sitting there. It's just so comical when he's like that with his "i'm a very serious dog" expression on his face.

Gotta love the fur babies!

16. My yellow lab does that too,

after eating and after coming home from chasing the ball.

I have a rag ready and he stands quietly and lets me wipe his face for him. This usually keeps him from going directly to the couch and wiping his face all along it and the rug.

Juneau has so many habits, I don't think I could name them all. A couple of funnier ones:

When my husband takes out the garbage, Juneau will quickly grab a bite of food from the dish by the door and then follow husband out to the garbage.

He has three different Kong type balls that you put treats in and he presents a specific one to us each day at a specific time. Red one when husband getting ready for work, green one when we get home, bone shaped one after dinner.

When I go into the bathroom to get ready, he stands there looking at me until I blow him with the hairdryer. This started as something he would do only when he heard the hairdryer on the odd days I washed my hair, now he does it everyday.

I could go on and on. We always joke that if you do something he likes one time, it will become a habit because the next day at the same time he will want to do it again.

Dogs are so amazing, especially my dog.

My mother and I used to say “ride.” The girls (3) would go batsh*t, so we started spelling it. That worked for about a week, then we’d say “r” and they’d… go batsh*t. Never even got the “i-d-e” out. Same thing with “dinner.” We had to start spelling it, and eventually just saying “d” didn’t work either. Smart girs!
