My doggie had to have some teeth pulled...

Took her in for a spay and she needed dental care...since she is a rescue we knew she was in bad shape, but now it looks like they had to pull 5-6 teeth

So now not only will her tummy hurt, but her mouth too. Went and got some all natural organic soft food, thinking that'
s about all she can handle for a while...

Anyone got any other tips?

along with all her other stressors can cause digestive probs. Try wetting her regular kibble to soften it, and feeding small amounts in frequent intervals. If she normally eats canned food, use the same brand and wait until she's on the mend before gradually introducing a change in diet.

Good luck and don't fret; with a kind word and a little petting, most dogs handle their recovery process much better than their human companions.

but he had to have all his molars removed---first it was all the top, then when that didn't help, all the bottoms as well. He refused to eat canned food, so I had to offer him his regular kibble. He had no problems. I will admit that he is what the vet calls a "dog eater", since he eats all the food offered at once and gobbles it down. Unless your dog is chewing on a bone or something, I bet he hardly chews his food anyways. I would not worry too much about this unless you see that your doggie is having a problem.

came home and boiled some leftover chicken, made broth for her kibble softening tomorrow. tonite she's just happy to sleep. I did mush up some cream cheese and chicken to get her meds down, she gulped it and laid back down...

The sucky thing is we had the kitten neutered the same time, so now I am babysitting BOTH! little fucker has already gotten out of one cone, so i had to run to the pet store for an alternative, got an inflatable one, but he can still scratch the thing off if he's persistent....and of course eve with meds the little bastard won;t sleep!

I can see it's gonna be a long night!!!

Dogs don't chew bite sized pieces of food or mushy food anyway. Animals also bounce back from surgery much more quickly than humans. It's really astounding how fast... the harder part is often trying to keep them more relaxed and not running and jumping around to allow healing time.

Don't change the food abruptly since that will likely cause stomach problems. If they eat wet food just keep feeding that, and if they eat hard kibble bits you might want to soften it with a little water until the gums aren't sore anymore though that would likely only be a for a couple of days. If you want to switch food to improve their diet do it very gradually adding the new food to the old bit by bit over a period of weeks until they are no longer getting any of the old food.

Try putting some warm water on the kibble and let it soak in. That will soften the food up a bit without changing the formulation of the food. That can give her softer food. That is what the vet told me to do when my dog had to have a tooth pulled. No tummy upset that way.

I know I wouldn't be as spry as she is so fast!

She did well with the organic canned stuff, tried to soften the kibbel with broth, but she wouldn't have it. She also likes deli meat and steamed veggies, so that went well for a few days....then I noticed her crunching the kitty's kibble again, and yesterday she wanted some raw carrot from me (small pieces)

Funny doggie, my daughter had a friend over this weekend and they had chips in her room. Waffles couldn't eat them yet but she snagged a couple and "buried" them under her blanket for later!
I tell ya, that's why we love them, the little clowns!
