Gizmo update: Emergency vet gave him antibiotics and pain medication. We're getting him some

special food for his urinary condition. And if he is still not acting or feeling right in a few days, he is to get x-rays and a urinalysis at his regular vet.

Thanks everyone, for virtually holding my hand last night! You guys are the best!

2. We're still in the car, so he's pretty sad, but yeah once we get home

he should hopefully settle in more comfortably.

5. Kitteh does not like vet visit.

My cat who's had the same problem never used to mind vet visits (though he wasn't fond of the car ride), but ever since he had to be treated for it, he just hates going there, probably with good reason since they had to do some poking and prodding of sensitive parts. Now, even if he's just there for a checkup, he crouches on the examining table with his ears back, emitting a constant low growl.

Hope Gizmo is now back home, sleeping somewhere comfortable and feeling better.

6. He hid under the bench or counter throughout most of the visit, or was slinking around

to check the place out. (Although after the rectal thermometer, he mostly just hunkered down in a corner.)

He seems perkier, but is still peeing on the towel in the bathroom. I suppose one pill of antibiotics won't fix him right up. We'll see how he is after a few more.

9. I do hope that the antibiotics are all that he needs.

Is he peeing red still? Did the vet have any idea of what it might be? Just an infection?

10. Still red, but she said a minimum of 12 hours before I see a difference. I have sacrificed

another white towel in the kids' shower for him to use until the box is less scary to him. At least I can get a good look at the samples he is leaving.

11. That is a very good point.

The towels will be able to be cleaned. And if you don't think you could use them again, get some puppy pads. Rinse the towels, then use hydrogen peroxide on them. It might take a lot, but it should clean them all up.

I hope that your kitty will start to use the litter box again. I have heard that once they associate the pain of urination with the litter box, it can be difficult to get them to use the box again. If it doesn't get used again, you might want to try getting a different box.

12. Yep, we may get him a new box and put it in the bathroom where he's been peeing anyway. It all

depends on how badly this round of problems has gotten for him.

15. Something that might help

I had a kit who plugged repeatedly. The vet suggested using distilled water instead of tap in his bowl. I did, and he never had another episode. Your Gizmo seems to have an infection going, too, but reducing the precipitates in his urine will cut down pain and inflammation.
