Help Save Heidi: Stop Her Destruction by Royal Oak
Heidi is our 5 year old rescued Doberman Pincher. Because of her excited reaction to a stranger who tried to pet her, Royal Oak is now requiring her destruction or removal from our family. This is heartbreaking and totally unnecessary.
We beg you to read Heidis story and sign our on-line petition to the City of Royal Oak. This asks the city to dismiss the charges & this unreasonably harsh penalty. PLEASE SIGN AND FORWARD THIS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY. Your own dog may be at risk for this same unreasonable treatment in the future.

(6,948 posts)This is unbelievable. Bumping someone's face is not the same as an aggressive behavior. I get bumped all over where I work from dogs that are just showing a little rambunctious affection. Hell, people sometimes accidentally bump heads once in a while! The stranger should have asked permission to pet her before reaching down. He's lucky she's a friendly dog.
What a nightmare for the family. I hope they win this!

(5,604 posts)It may not be kosher, but try cross posting to GD, and then (if necessary) defy anyone for denouncing it. JMHO.

(2,860 posts)I hope Heidi gets to go free. This could have been my Nikki. She does the same sort of thing. She probably just wanted to give the stranger a kiss. This is so sad.
Wish i could do more...

(15,220 posts)And I hope you persevere! It is getting completely absurd that our right to have companion animals is being affected by stupid laws, etc.

(14,524 posts).. and best to you and Heidi, the ignorance some display with dogs is astounding. A person should never approach a strange without warning the person handling them first.
As a side note, please post this in the Animal Rights Group also, if you haven't already.

(6,783 posts)what if any kind of formal obedience training Heidi has had. The website describes Heidi as well-trained which suggests that there might be some witnesses available to attest to her training. Or better still, some kind of credentials.
I know that some insurance companies that otherwise exclude liability coverage for pit bulls will waive that exclusion if the dog is trained and earns the cainine good citizen certificate.
Seems to me that the stranger that wanted to pet Heidi instigated the incident by approaching quickly and then standing over Heidi. Of course, absent some impartial witnesses that would be hard to prove.
Sending good vibes to Heidi and hoping she is able to stay in her home.
