"I SWEAR to all that is anything, Izzie...if you knock the damned water dish over...

one more time I'm going to---" grab a towel, sigh and clean it up just like I have been doing.

Anyone have a cat (aged almost 3) who started doing this all of a sudden? She (Izzie) has some "issues". Mainly epilepsy. My concern is that she is losing her vision a little bit. If the water is 1 inch below the top of the bowl she's fine. If it's farther down she sticks her paw in it and sometimes (read ALL THE TIME) knocks it over (on the upside, that part of the kitchen floor is spotless!). She has a vet appointment this week, but I was just wondering if anyone else had a cat who suddenly started knocking crap over. She never plays in the water. So I don't think it's a play thing.

<<<Izzie--- And here's a gratuitous Kittimus Prime pretending he doesn't see the camera shot

I'd post a picture of Bella...but she really can't be bothered.

She might have suddenly developed a fear of putting her face so far into the bowl, for whatever reason. Also try different materials--if using stainless steel, try ceramic, etc. It might make the difference, especially if she is bothered by reflections in the water or something. Good luck--it's a puzzler.

Not the knocking over, but the feeling for the water level with her paw. And she has no known vision problems at age 12. Try a heavier dish, a shallower dish, or one that is set into a rack of some sort. I had a set of stainless-steel bowls in a wire rack, and that completely prevented problems like this.

Edit to add pic of example bowls:

"Fiesta Ware" is now dishwasher-safe, and as always, available in great colors.

hmmm ... I had thought DU3 doesn't post a pic with a direct link, but I guess it does.

that can't be tipped over. I am not good at posting pictures, but this is the sort I am talking about. The shape makes it impossible for a cat to knock over---and it is harder for you to pick up to, but at least you aren't always scrubbing floors.

I'll get back with you on how the situation progresses. I'm going to switch out the dish.
