He is going into surgery this morning. https://www.facebook.com/tinykittens/
"Nano and his brothers at the ER <3
UPDATE Oct 6th 11:17pm: Kilo and Gram are keeping Nano company tonight in the ICU. As you can see, Nano is bright, happy and very comfortable. He is in an oxygen chamber, which is really helping him breathe easily. His neighbor puppy was protesting me having the door open and letting the oxygen out, and quieted right down when I closed it. Nano has been doing very well eating 1 gram of high-calorie food every hour, and is more or less maintaining his weight.
Nano goes into surgery around 11am PT tomorrow. They weren't able to fully assess the situation in his abdomen because his structural anomalies made full visibility impossible, so there is still a chance that they will begin the surgery and discover an insurmountable defect. This is a very challenging surgery on a nano scale with many significant risks, but Nano's only other option is euthanasia. We're out of time, so we're going for the miracle.
Please be prepared for the worst, but join me in hoping we haven't used up all of our miracles. Regardless of the outcome tomorrow, the week since Nano's rescue has been filled with love, comfort, warmth, freedom from fleas and the best possible care. That is so much more than he would have had otherwise, and I hope we can all find comfort in that."

(77,600 posts)2:29pm: I am so sorry to report that Nano has died. He fought so incredibly hard, but his tiny body just wasn't able to survive. We couldn't have waited any longer to attempt surgery. I am so grateful to the team at Canada West for fighting to save him just as hard as he fought to live. Dr. S cried when she gave me the news, they all loved him just like we did. He mattered.
2:10pm: This is incredible. Dr. S decided to attempt the surgery as a last ditch effort to see if his misplaced organs were compressing his heart and keeping it from starting. She performed the repair of his PPDH and his heart was beating on its own when they closed him back up. They can't hear his heart now, but they couldn't hear it before either. She believes he is hovering between life and death at this time, and that his prognosis is still very very poor. This team is absolutely amazing, regardless of the outcome.
1:42pm: They are still performing CPR trying to get his heart started, but he is not responding. The team at Canada West Veterinary Specialists is performing heroically, doing everything they can.
1:28pm: Dr. S just called to let me know the team has started CPR. Nano crashed as the anesthetic was being started. They are working hard to start his heart. I should have news in a few minutes. His brothers are being held up at the window to give him their love.
1:10pm: I just got the call that Nano is heading into surgery. Time to PRAY!
I am still awaiting word from Dr. S (Nano's surgeon), and will post updates here as I get them. Thank you so much for your love and support for Nano.
Very special thanks to Sarah Holstein, who painted this beautifully poignant watercolor of Zetta and her Nano baby. Sarah has generously donated this painting to us in hopes that it will help raise money for Nano's surgery. If you would like to purchase the painting as a digital download to use however you wish, you may do so at http://j.mp/zettanano. 100% of your donation will go directly into Nano's medical fund.
