Remember the shelters this holiday season.
This morning I had the sad task of taking a neighborhood stray cat to a shelter since there was no one who could take it in. I found a no kill shelter about an hour's drive away and thought it would give him the best shot at a good life. I arrived at the shelter a little before it opened and was a little concerned about how run down the building was. Then I saw cats stretched out on hammocks laying in the sun and what looked like the "boss" cat staring out the front window watching for people. Then 3 volunteers arrived to wait with me. And then a car load of women hoping to adopt a cat. Finally, the shelter manager came to open up. Everyone was very friendly and loving. The inside of the place was as awful as the outside, but the cats were very healthy and happy looking and most seemed to be running free in playrooms rather than being in cages. This particular shelter has lost its lease and has plans to construct a new building. They're trying to raise several hundred thousand dollars. If you want to support some beautiful cats (and beautiful people) you couldn't go wrong to think of them when making end-of-year donations.
