Related: About this forumFoster kittens seven weeks old
They're getting more and more rambunctious! Can jump up easily to a surface 20 inches off the ground, and climb up onto the bed and fly across it in a flash! They chase and pounce at top speed and are starting to drive their cat mama a little crazy. She still nurses them, though, and tries to give them their baths! Two weeks from today they will probably be back at the shelter getting ready to be put up for adoption.
Here's what's been going on in the kitten room this week:
Eating: all are eating wet food well, and beginning to crunch dry kibble too, if it is in their wet food dish. Some are lapping water from the dish, and some are still scared of it! This is Max.

Playing: they all still love their paper pile! This is Ellie playing peek a boo.

Growing: You can now easily see the difference between Milo, left and Max on the right. Milo has a longer muzzle and will no doubt be a big dude orange cat! Max is the same size, but his face is more round.

Cuddling: still like to nurse on Mama Greta and she doesn't mind. She still calls them to her.

Tumbling: Here is Alfie showing off his belly spots!

Climbing: Mama likes to get away to the top of the shelves and look out the window. Ellie would really like to figure out how to get up there, too! (Note: see what I had to do to the lamp plug and night light to keep them from being pulled out and/or chewed on! Duct tape to the rescue.)

Eyes: they are all in the process of turning green. Still have some blue around the edges. Alfie's remain the most blue, and the others' are greener. Maybe his eyes will be a darker shade because he's darker overall.

Being Adorable: My daughter took this photo and the next of Max and Alfie.

Falling Asleep Anywhere: stay still too long and it happens!

Sleeping Just Like a Big Kitty: All tired out and with a full tummy. That bed was just too irresistible!

(4,902 posts)Their instinct begins to kick in and they start trying out the skills they will need later on in life. Constant wrestling
with siblings. Puffy tails and other intimidating behavior made to scare the other cats. Climbing everything that can be climbed. Glad you are getting to enjoy this time with them. And thanks for fostering.
Warpy
(110,913 posts)running sideways thing, the absolute apex of cute kittenhood, IMO. After that, they start turning into little cats, still hyper for another couple of years, but very grown up, thankyouverymuch.

(17,276 posts)Tomorrow I'm going to try to teach them to go up and down stairs, and try them out on the screened porch. I would have already, except for the difficulty of keeping the mama cat separated from my own two cats. But the kittens need to have new experiences so we will manage it.
PsychoBabble
(837 posts)8 year old cat to cancer, less than a week warning before we had to put her down - absolutely heartbreaking. So it a delight to see the curious faces and energy of kittens again, and remember the good times - and to escape from Trump-World for a few minutes.
Good luck with them all.

(17,276 posts)He is definitely a male. If you look at the belly spots picture, you'll see all of his "stuff", too.
Ellie is the lighter tabby and she does have three colors, just like her mom.

(17,276 posts)They will be nine weeks soon and then we'll have to think about the return to the shelter. I'll miss them! In the meantime I'm still taking a lot of pictures.
