(KGTV) - A group of Massachusetts police officers and firefighters are being hailed as heroes after coming to the aid of a choking puppy this week.

North Reading resident Megan Vitale stormed into a police station Sunday telling officers her 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy, Bodhi, was choking on food. An acquaintance came running in with Bodhi shortly after, the puppy limp and unresponsive in his arms, surveillance footage from the station showed.

A group of officers came running out to begin administering first aid to the puppy. A group of North Reading firefighters also arrived at the station to help with back blows and chest compressions.

After 10 minutes, the food blockage was finally dislodged and Bodhi was revived.

With all the crap floating around, we really need these stories reminding us that the vast majority of people are good and kind and caring. I'd say more, but I seem to have something in my eye.

I once managed to "Heimlich" a friend's infant by using 2 fingers under her ribcage, so I actually might have figured out a way to dislodge the choker food from the puppy.

OTOH, I am very careful with little ones and pets, so the pup probably would not have had a chance to gobble oversized food in a way that could choke him. I am all too aware that ordinary things can become a danger to an animal or a small child.

Did you notice the puppy's male owner was trying to give him mouth to mouth? Those two people do love their little guy.
