When we got him from the foster who rescued him from the third Humane Society stay, we were told that he was fixed. ( He'd been picked up in Ohio did his time shipped to Indiana cause he's so cute, did his time, shipped to another Indiana humane society and rescued on his last day. Literally, dead dog walking.) Somewhere along the way, the ball was dropped, no pun intended. Turns out he was never fixed, they just never dropped.
Couple weeks ago, one got sufficiently large enough in the abdomen to be noticeable. Changed vets (long story) and had em removed. Tests came back and the one that was swollen was malignant. Vet doesn't think it got to his lymph nodes and thinks she got everything. But all we can do is keep an eye out for swollen lymph nodes in the future. Sucks. He's 9 and my best buddy.......

He's standing on the cat condo looking out the window for me every week when I get back home and he's my shadow when I am home. ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT! Im starting to tear up.
Thanks for the kind words Dude!

(21,646 posts)I hope he has a long long life !!
Sounds like he had a enuf run around early in life then found a good home and hopefully good health now too.

(11,794 posts)He seems to be healthy enough at the moment. Barking at every movement outside, annoying his mommy and daddy....
But we're keeping an eye out for anything weird....
Thanks Luna!

(70,483 posts)The best dog in the history of all dogs is my black english labrador retriever,
Fluebie, and I just found out he has end stage kidney disease 2 weeks ago
... every good day w/him is a bonus. I just took him to the Mts. in western
MD on a vacation.

(11,794 posts)Believe me, I'm feeling your pain. I hope his pain is at a minimum. And hey, if you need a shoulder, I'm here. Just drop me a line and you can lean on me.
Botany
(70,483 posts)His appetite is way down and he doesn't like the special dog food
he has to have because of his kidney disease but over all he is doing
good ..... looks like we will have another April together and from
there we will see what is up. BTW he will turn 12 in April and that is
a long run for a big dog.
We just walked around the block for the 3rd time today.

(2,396 posts)We decided to just let her live the rest of her time bossing us around without putting her through a risky surgery etc.
The vet prescribed Cyproheptadine for her appetite and she pigged out enough to gain back the several lbs she lost. She was like an eating machine.
Maybe look into that?
Also, when she was diagnosed last September, we were told we were basically doing hospice care since she would die pretty soon but she's still getting in my hair. (Literally. She walks on my head when I'm asleep.)
I think our animals can surprise us!

(34,367 posts)The only time our furry family members are capable of breaking our hearts is when it's time for them to leave us. I hope you're able to spend as much time as possible with him. This is the hard part. I'll be thinking of you.
Botany
(70,483 posts).... he was throwing up all the time and crashing but with a wonder shot of an anti-nausea
medicine and some oral treatments along with a change in diet he has stabilized and is enjoying
life. And hey if he wants to ride along w/me in the pick up I am more than good w/that
too.
This is what he looks like:

look at the last 4 pictures of the big black labs.
He is sleeping at my feet right now.

(34,367 posts)He sounds like a little character--"half Jack Russell, half pain in the ass." Here's hoping you have many happy years together.
