Still On Shelves: Some Dog Owners Say Chicken Jerky Dog Treats Poisoned Their Pets

Graham, NC-- There are dog treats that thousands of you feed your dogs, but some dog owners say could be deadly to your pets.

News 2's Liz Crawford investigated this and found pet owners are coming together by the thousands with their horror stories. However, the FDA still hasn't recalled the products.

Kathleen Bedwell of Graham, NC called it a "scary close call" after both her dogs fell violently ill while she was on vacation. Her dog Juju was given a lot of Waggin' Train chicken jerky.

"Most of her food intake was from those treats that week," said Bedwell.

1. I've been reading about these things and it's really scary.

And evidently, there are people searching the internet for posts warning people about them. My county shelter, where I got my deaf dog, posted about the chicken jerky treats on their facebook page. Most of us were concerned, but a few people showed up to post links to articles saying there is no problem with them. Someone called the county sheriff's office and threatened to sue the shelter and the county for posting false info about chicken jerky treats, so he deleted their facebook page. Hundreds of us were furious and let him know. He started a new facebook page, which after three days got only one "like" and finally, he let the volunteers take over the original page, but they had to change the name to "fans of" the shelter. The whole episode was just insane. and still, every store has these products which have killed hundreds of dogs and the FDA won't issue a recall. It's infuriating!

2. Most of these treats come from China

if I cannot pinpoint where the product was made I will not give it to my dog.

This has to be handled correctly by the FDA, wonder who's paying off whom.

3. I quit feeding them to my dog when I first heard about this.

Can't remember the exact brand off hand but it was one of the ones listed in a previous article I read. Canyon Creek Ranch, I think it was. Went back to the Dogswell Happy Hips duck flavor.
