We won't be having one this year as he took down two last year. There is NO PLACE in my house he can't reach.
I don't care. We love him. He's worth all the trouble he causes.

(2,795 posts)But he never knocked them down, just liked to break ornaments and sleeping on and depositing a lot of cat fur on the tree skirt.
He's been gone almost 15yrs and we have other cats, but Tbone, was one of a kind. I loved that cat! Never have I had one with such personality. He was hilarious!

(533 posts)Taken after I removed the lights and the star on top. He still knocked it over and dragged it across the room. I don't want him to jinx my Chiefs this year so I'll leave it in storage.

(4,516 posts)NO ribbons on packages. Package with no ribbon = safe Package with a ribbon of any kind = shredded ASAP I've tried giving her own bows/ribbons and she ignores them. Wrapped around a box, I guess she sees that as desicration of a sacred item LOL

(34,373 posts)It actually thwarted our two wild Siamese cats. The ornaments were trickier--all of them unbreakable, of course and definitely no tinsel. Family heirlooms remained in the box--we'd take them out to admire and reminisce, but that's all we dared do. I'm lucky with my two spoiled rescues--they'll occasionally knock off an ornament or two, but they aren't Barbarians.
Cats, gotta love them. It's their house, we merely live here.

(20,758 posts)I used to position mine under a stout hanging plant hook in the ceiling, and use sturdy green poly rope to tie the upper half of the tree to the hook. Then tied the middle of the tree to the doorknob of the never-opened-during-the-holiday-season storage closet, then anchored the base to the legs of the heavy sofa next to it.
I used twist ties instead of ornament hooks, to attach decorations and lights.
They still found ways to destroy bits of it...

(9,534 posts)Worked for our kitties some years back when they knocked one over. For added security you can also tie it down to a wall AND the ceiling.
Avoid breakable ornaments if they are climbers, or put them near the top only if they don't climb the tee.
Never use tinsel with any pets, or tree preservative in the water, as these are highly toxic and can kill pets.
