I rescued another dog today.

We think she is a pomeranian mix. Who knows how old she is. She's scared and bitey right now. Hopefully I will find her a good home.

She was roaming the neighborhood, and a neighbor had been feeding her. Nobody's claimed her yet.

to such a cute little doggie. Wish I could take in more, but I can only afford the cat and a dog I have. It is hard to go by the homeless ones at PetSmart withouit wanting to take them all in.

I love the hair, the way it sticks up. Congratulations, on your new member of the family.

You don't mention what steps you've taken to find the owner. Please don't give her away until you've covered all the bases!

It's important that you contact local animal control, because they will have reports of missing pets. They can also check the dog for a microchip (as can any vet). Also, most areas have a Lost & Found group on Facebook that posts messages from families trying to find their dog.

Bear in mind that dogs that have gone into panic mode may be on their own for days or weeks, and they can look pretty rough. That isn't always a sign that they've been abandoned or abused. There may be a loving family frantically trying to find their dog, so help them on your end.

The people who found her did. She'd been hanging around the neighborhood for about a year. Nobody claimed her and she just kind of bonded with them, but they didn't adopt her into their home. They fed her on the front porch.

We live in a neighborhood in a rural area. People dump their unwanted pets here. I also feed and rescue feral cats. I have two kittens waiting to get spayed.

I just didn't want to assume. Some people in my area seem to think they can just rehome a dog they picked up off the street.

I've done about a half-dozen TNRs of the ferals around my block (plus taken in many over the years). And sadly, I know about the dog dumping all too well. Many years back we rescued two Scottish Terriers that had been set loose on a nearby mountain road. Like you, all the houses were full up taking care of previous dumped dogs.

Aside from the three street cats we've taken in, we've got two rescued coon hounds. Older unneutered females, abandoned after they'd been bred out. It's taken a long time to teach them how to be house pets and bond with people.

She looks like one. However DH is not especially fond of dogs so I’ll have to be content with spoiling my granddog. He loves cats (my late MIL was a Crazy Cat Lady) and we always have at least 2.

She is probably very scared until she learns she can trust the new surroundings.

Hope it's possible for her to get to a safe, loving home.

Thanks for caring about rescuing this little lost one.
