Our dog is doing better

Our American Rat Terrier, Audry (or Lil' Sweet, as I call her) seems to be picking up.

She had been lethargic. She wasn't eating or drinking. Her bark has had no umph. She was even limping to avoid her right front paw. She lost quite a bit of weight (and she was small--not underweight-- to begin with).

She has seen the vet twice. The vet has taken blood work and x-rays both times. Negative on everything. The vet says that tic-borne illnesses often take a long time to show up in blood work. All x-rays have been negative for anything suspicious.

On the first visit she was prescribed pain meds and an antibiotic for the tic-borne illness. She seemed to have progress in "spurts."

When we brought her back, she got a different antibiotic.

Fingers crossed. Today we recognized some of the light in her eyes that we love. Not only that, but she guzzled down a bunch of water. We've been trying to keep her hydrated (even adding no-salt added chicken broth to the water) and it seemed like a losing battle.

Last night when we fed her, we added an egg and some olive oil to her food, so that even if she eats only a little, she gets the protein and fats that she needs. She didn't eat very much of it. Interestingly enough... Lil' Sweet loves the cat food. (And the cat loves the dog food!!!)

I really want Lil' Sweet to gain some weight before Christmas.

even though it has not shown up in her blood work. The vet says it can take months to show up in the blood... and it can take a long time to cure.
