The world is celebrating a lot of nontraditional heroes these days, not the least of which is a feisty kitty named Bear. Bear, who was adopted from Lake Humane Society in Mentor. OH, in December 2018, is being credited with saving his owners life.
The Humane Society shared the news on its Facebook page May 2, noting that Bears adopter, Alan, lives alone and suffers with numerous health conditions.
(He) was not feeling well last week and thought taking a nap would help him to feel better, the post says. But Bear would not have it! Bear knew something was wrong and sprang into action; she jumped on his chest, pawed at him, licked his face and finally succeeded in waking him up!
Feeling dizzy and not seeing clearly when he awoke, Alan decided to call 911, the account goes. EMTs arrived and found that his blood sugar was over 900.
Alan was rushed to the hospital and admitted. Upon talking with his doctor, he explained that had he stayed asleep he would have died, the post says. He is now feeling better and back at home with Bear.

(21,055 posts)My cat stayed on my bed with me the whole time. She usually likes to sunbath and look out the window at the birds and the squirrel but for those two days I was really sick (outside of eating and doing her business) the cat stayed by my side. Even when my husband came home from work that cat stayed with me. Then my husband got sick as I was getting better and the cat stayed with him!
