I adopted a wonderful cat a year ago. Alas, she's not at all a lap cat. Sigh. Poor me. She is feisty and energetic and doesn't sleep with me at night. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I do know that I'm doing nothing wrong and that she's simply a cat who doesn't want to sit on a lap or sleep with a human. If I could go back in time I'd have made sure the cat I was bringing home was more cuddly and lap appreciative, but this one is still a wonderful cat and I'm glad she is in my life.

I had actually adopted another cat about six weeks earlier. An older cat, age 17, given up when her owner could no longer take care of her. This cat had health issues, thyroid and kidney, and needed to be on a special, somewhat expensive diet. The vet at the shelter was brutally honest, telling me she might last two months, she might last two years, but I better understand her remaining time was short. No problem. I'd had old cats in the past.

Alas, this cat was only with me three and a half weeks, and I have no regrets about taking her home. She deserved to spend those final weeks with a human. Plus, she was cuddly, affectionate, slept with me, sat on my lap, all the things I like best about a cat. I'm only sorry her time with me was so short.

My current cat is now about 5 years old, as she came to the shelter as a stray and they thought then she was about 4. So she'll be with me for the long term. She is affectionate in her own way, and I'm glad she is in my life.

Aren't our furry friends just the best?

to be getting more affectionate as he gets older; he'll be 7 late this year. He loves to give kisses and head butts. Being that he was a rescue we adopted at 6 months old, I'm not sure if he was loved as a kitten.
How old was Othello when you adopted him?

old when I got him.

He was a wee little cat black and white ball of fluff.
He's 3 years old,now.

And I love everyday he graces me with his presence.
