Mr. Cat, my porch cat, is well on his way to becoming a house cat.

I know this because this morning he puked up a hairball on the only upholstered surface on the porch, the chair he sleeps on. He could have puked on the porch floor, on the sidewalk, in the bushes, or anywhere outside within a cat's walking distance. But no. He yakked up a substantial hairball accompanied by blobs of undigested cat food and what looked like mouse guts on the cushion of his chair and then wandered off to do cat stuff for awhile. I tidied up the mess, of course; and he came back a little later, ate his breakfast, and is now sleeping on his newly-cleaned chair.

This is how I know he has house cat potential.

As a long time cat owner, or should I say servant, I find this both hilarious and quite true. patphil Oct 2021 #7

At least you found this one in daylight. Nothing worse than a nighttime walk to the loo and feeling something wet and squishy between the toes! God, I love cats!
And the cats are even luckier that WE love THEM!

Some de-fleaing, spaying or neutering may be involved but you will have a great pet. I had mine (actually 2 of them - mother and son) for almost 15 years.

I let them go out for a few hours a day but with bells on their necks and attached big shoes on their leashes so no pouncing on wildlife.

Daily brushing does away with the hair balls and it brings you closer together. Sit him on your lap and brush away - he will be purring in a minute and you will feel your oxytocin level rise happily.

Good luck to the two of you.

He's slowly getting tamer - I've been feeding him on the porch since March - to the point where he will take bits of chicken from my fingers, but he won't let me touch him. At some point I hope to be able to get him to the vet for neutering, shots, etc., but it might be necessary to use a live trap. In the meantime he does have a heated shelter if he needs it.

My indoor cat definitely likes brushing, though. We do that every day.
