Related: About this forumPoor Gryff was slightly traumatized by yesterday's dinner company.
Madoc was right in the middle of everything but Gryff went into hiding. This was actually the first time he's seen a group of people in the house but even if it's just one other person, he tends to be really shy. Then, after dinner when we were all in the living room, he finally appeared on the kitchen window sill. He DID allow some pets but then would hide beneath the table, again. That's where he ate his dinner.
Today he's so full of energy. He and Madoc have been bouncing around the house, all morning. And by all morning, I mean starting at about 4:30.
It's a cold, miserable day with snow in the forecast. I've decided that I'm just going to spend today watching a 'Law and Order' marathon and playing with the kittens. Well, that and making some Turkey Tetrazzini, sipping some wine - maybe some egg nog - and then there's that left over Dutch Apple Pie I made that should be eaten, soon. Just because.

(8,201 posts)Sometimes when I'm in the mood for a lazy day I like a cold, miserable day so I feel justified in hanging out with the cats in my sweatpants.
All my rescue cats except the Siamese hid upstairs while we had dinner with Mr. Femmedem's son and his wife. The Siamese was happy to headbutt strangers and make sure everyone knows he's allowed on the table.

(26,259 posts)I suspect he had already snacked enough during the appetizer phase of the day.
Madoc seemed particularly attracted to my niece. He snuggled next to her on the couch and purred away. She and her husband are dog lovers but they both were very taken by Madoc. He is a charmer.

(8,201 posts)I love when a cat can win over a dog person.
I have a friend who always had dogs and was afraid of cats. She asked me to go with her to a cat show a few years back--ok, maybe a decade ago--so she could lose some of her fear. One of the cat owners thrust a cat into her arms before she had a chance to say no, and it was a Madoc-level charmer. My friend was so enchanted that now she has almost as many cats as I do.

(193 posts)We always use the Friday after Thanksgiving to just enjoy our home, hang out with our cat and revel in each other's company.
Sounds like you've got a perfect down home day planned.
Enjoy!

long that I was sure he had gotten out of the house and probably been picked off by a car. I looked EVERYWHERE. I was so distraught I couldnt even eat dinner. Twice, I walked around our neighborhood, calling for him, in the freezing cold and one of those times was in the dark - good luck seeing a black and brown tabby cat in the dark, right?
Finally, after about 8 hours, our younger son came walking down the stairs with the cat in his arms. He had been under our sons platform bed, where I had looked several times, but had managed to get himself all the way up against the headboard, where the view was blocked by the pullout storage drawer.
I was so relieved I cried.

(26,259 posts)What ever door I open reveals a new world for him to explore. I'm actually going to ask the vet abut getting him 'chipped'. Meanwhile I'll be putting 'Watch for Madoc!!!!!!!' signs on all of the doors - facing in and facing out.

My thought was if she got out & someone grabbed her, it could be a person not inclined or unable to drive to a vet to check for a chip. 👍

(21,428 posts)she can wiggle out of it if necessary. Cat collars that are not stretchy can get snagged and cause a cat to get asphixiated. Or they can trap a cat if snagged when the cat is trying to escape a predator.

(21,428 posts)a few decades ago. I had not thought about the risk of a regular collar. When I took a cat to the vet wearing a regular collar, he advised me to switch to a stretchy one for the cat's safety, so I did. It might mean that the cat comes home minus its collar, but they can always be replaced. Any pet store sells them.
