“Me and my friend were playing around,” Castanier told Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge James Kingsley. “We were playing a game with guns and I shot and killed him.”

Battle Creek police said Ullrich died Sept. 19 from a single gunshot wound to the head. Officers said the two men, along with a third friend, Jeremy Hatcher, were celebrating Hatcher’s birthday at Castanier’s home.

“We were hanging out at a party for a friend’s birthday,” Castanier explained to the judge. “We were drinking. We had played with guns before and I shot him.”

Police said Ullrich was shot with a .357 caliber revolver.

pleaded guilty to the charges of manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon as part of a plea agreement. In exchange for his plea, the murder and felony firearm charges will be dismissed, according to defense attorney Dan Rhodes and Assistant Prosecutor David Heiss.

He is charged as a habitual offender because Castanier has a prior felony conviction for making a bomb threat in 1997 in Kalamazoo.

The Shootist the survivors should be forced on a loop. The one where Books tells Ron Howard's character that "guns and booze don't mix"
