Me and my friend were playing around, Castanier told Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge James Kingsley. We were playing a game with guns and I shot and killed him.
Battle Creek police said Ullrich died Sept. 19 from a single gunshot wound to the head. Officers said the two men, along with a third friend, Jeremy Hatcher, were celebrating Hatchers birthday at Castaniers home.
We were hanging out at a party for a friends birthday, Castanier explained to the judge. We were drinking. We had played with guns before and I shot him.
Police said Ullrich was shot with a .357 caliber revolver.
