Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumObama stockpiling ammo!
I saw this mentioned on another message board and thought "That is crazy talk".
Then I googled it and found a story at what is probably a right wing website. Supposedly he's buying it all
up to prevent citizens from buying it and storing it in Indiana.
There is just so much wrong with this idea. If it were true the ammo manufacturers would love it because
they would just keep cranking it out and jacking up the price. And why Indiana? Is there a redder state?

there is an underlying, reasonable source for the story and then, like playing whisper down the lane, the initial story gets parts of it omitted or changed.
http://www.businessinsider.com/dhs-fletc-ammunition-purchases-750-million-200-million-40-caliber-rounds-2013-1
Per the story Dept of Homeland Security ordered 750 million rounds of 40 S&W, a standard caliber for much, if not all of Federal law enforcement. Among the armed agencies under DHS are the Coast Guard, Secret Service, Customs, Border Patrol, ICE, TSA and Federal Protective Service. Some of the other agencies under the DHS umbrella probably have armed personal as well.*
DHS is also responsible for Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and uses the ammo for training there and some of the agencies that train new agents at FLETC include:
U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), State Department
Federal Bureau of Prisons
Federal Offices of Inspectors General
Federal Reserve Police
Maritime Law Enforcement Academy
NASA Office of Inspector General
National Park Ranger
Smithsonian Police
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
United States Border Patrol#Training
United States Capitol Police
United States Federal Protective Service
United States Park Police
United States Pentagon Police
United States Marshals Service

(6,622 posts)The big DHS buy is .40. I agree that the drought is driven by hoarding, BTW.
So you own a .40. Are you a "gun humper"?

Seven-round mag limit, for example? Do you have a five-round mag for that 10/22? They make them, but they're hard to find. After April 15th, nothing over seven rounds can be bought or sold.
How about that Glock 22? If you live in NY, you may already have ten-round mags, or you may have 15-round pre-bans: all legal. After April 15th, you can keep your ten-rounders, but your 15-rounders will have to go: sell out-of-state, destroy, or surrender. You can keep your ten-rounders, but you can't sell or transfer them, and you can't buy any more. If Glock doesn't decide to make a seven-round mag for any of its handguns, you'll have to just hope you can keep the ten-round magazines you have in good working order for the rest of your natural life. Oh, and you can only load seven in them, even in your own home.
And that 570? That's now an assault weapon in New York. You'll have to sell that out of state or register it. If you do the latter, it will be forfeit when you die. No one can buy another like it ever again in this state.
Does that sound reasonable to you?
frylock
(34,825 posts)I'm cool with a 10 rd magazine limit. If you live in New York, that's something you need to take up with your local government.
