Connecticut Gun Sales Brisk, Mirroring National Trend

Connecticut's retail gun sales, mirroring a national trend, have been so busy that some store owners are keeping waiting lists for some firearms and noting dwindling inventory for others.

"We're out of about everything," said Bob Farr, the owner of Connecticut Firearms and Tactical in Orange.

He said that demand and orders picked up right after the Dec. 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. "[The manufacturers] won't even give us a ship date."

In December, Connecticut gun stores sold more than 19,400 firearms, according to data from the Connecticut State Police, up 71 percent from the previous year.

Life can get very complicated for people who choose to violate federal laws. That's the stick. Receiving fair market value for your firearms in a mandatory amnesty/ turn in is the carrot. There are many ways. It will happen eventually. Prrhaps not this year but maybe next year. How many justices are up for retirement btw?

Grabbers at this level of enthusiasm would be fine with straight up house-to-house searches, regardless of any record of possession.

Of course, the "IRS and BATFE" would have to put on a few hundred thousand more Sturmtruppen, which would help the national employment level, I guess.

Then there's the boon to the manufacturers of metal detectors needed to find all those packed in cosmoline and buried.[/quote]

Can't let ANYONE know about them. Can't sell or transfer them if you needed to.

Would it really be worth taking the chance that SOME/ANY ONE wouldn't rat you out? A slip of the tonque by your kid? A nosey neighbor? BATF and a past 4473? Even an eventual previously-justified use of 1 wouldn't fly.

I don't get it - I just can't see the risk of becoming a felon, going to jail etc. and losing everything is worth holding on to an AR or other illegal object. Besides there being so many other viable choices.

And I've been smoking pot for forty years without being busted, so I know the value of discretion. As far as going to jail, if the situation ever arose wherein I needed to use them, that would be the least of my worries because I would probably have also been subject to imprisonment for exercising a lot of other rights.

Eventually it WILL come to that...the only 'sensible' option will be to get as many as possible out of the hands of the public as every 'reasonable' attempt at control has been thwarted.

Here's a pdf outlining what folks can expect if they are caught violating federal firearms laws. It looks like it's a moot point however. The AWB seems to have failed to develop the necessary momentum to get it through Reid's senate and Boehner's House of Republicans. At most, we'll get some BS about background checks that won't do a god damned thing to stop gun crimes. Eventually, we'll change the composition of the SCOTUS however and that will be a game changer.

President Barack Obama
Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser, 2007

We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements--like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole--so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

when high end .223 is going for $28.99 for a box of 20 and the store is limiting you to 5 boxes, it's a bit past brisk. Reloading components are scarce, ammo prices are through the roof and even surplus ammo for bolt action rifles is drying up. AR-15 sightings are make news on the local gun forums.

Guns stores are just packed and the Cabela's 15 minutes away put out chairs for people to sit on while they wait for the state NICS check to be done.

And how do you know we don't donate to local food banks and other charities?

Local club I shoot does charity matches:
The charity match the day after Thanksgiving donated $585 to a local food bank,

We also raised $545 for the CT Special Olympics on 1/4/13 during another charity match

We've been doing both charity matches for at least 4 or 5 years, which about when the club matches started.

On edit: "buying fucking death" so the thousands and thousands of boxes of ammo I have bought since I started shooting have all been defective? It's comments like yours make gun owners refuse to take anti-gun people seriously. It's posts like that show why you have no credibility.
