Associated Press= WASHINGTON (AP) Vice President Joe Biden is asking pastors, rabbis and nuns to help make the moral argument to their followers for gun control legislation.
Biden met for two-and-a-half hours with leaders from various faith communities. Participants emerged from the meeting encouraged that the Obama administration isn't giving up the fight even though efforts in the Senate so far have failed.
But round two on gun control may have to wait. Participants say it was clear from the meeting that another vote won't take place until after Congress finishes work on an immigration overhaul.
Participants say some clergy who represent evangelical and conservative communities had reservations about the legislation, especially about expanded background checks. But they say Biden and his aides reassured them the legislation isn't overly broad.

I don't care what any preacher has to say about guns ,,, for or agin.
I have as much right to my thoughts and opinions as any preacher.
my vote holds the same power of one vote as the preacher.

(2,708 posts)r. What happened to the separation of church and state
Biden is asking for their assistance, not demanding it.
The church(es) ask for govt assistance on occasion like when crime is committed on church property.
When clergy commit a 'sin' like child abuse, separation of C&S stops because a state rule has been broken. This is not the case when a simple plea for reasonable assistance is asked for, especially when the plea has majority religious support.
Had biden asked for churches to stop with the eucharistic communions because salmonella poisoning could develop, & there was no basis, then separation of C&S would apply.
Separation C&S is to separate church dogma from state dogma & keep one from obstructing the other, but when they overlap there is common ground... and no harm in 'asking'.
