Ask Doug Prokop — who did vote for Stothert — why he no longer supports Suttle, and he rolls his eyes.

“His actions,” Prokop replied, before launching into a list of what he considers Suttle's greatest flops. There was that costly car lease, right out of the gate. The restaurant tax. The secret raises.

“That was bad. That was real bad. And then the million dollars for police,” he added, referring to Suttle's decision not to pursue overpayments to police officers.

I talk to people quite frequently, who have friends, family, children etc in the Omaha area.

The one thing they all seem to have in common, is an agreement that the "assault weapon ban" is utter stupidity. Even the fella I used to work for...hes an avid sportsman, hunter, outdoorsman, LIFELONG Democratic voter...is considering voting against Democrats over this nonsense.

That crud might fly in other states, but not in NE. I see typically higher gun ownership rates and hear second amendment praises here, more than I did in AZ.

va mtnman: ...He just lost...to a conservative repuke...

Wow, the same republican type 'repuke' you've been backing to the hilt the entire year of 2013 regarding pro gun policy?
Are you happy or sad, vmm? either way you should'nt be saying 'i tole ya so'.

He chose to make gun bans part of his campaign, seems to have only helped his opposition.

You provide absolutely no evidence for that conclusion, and what difference does his losing really make?
I reread the article you linked to, twice, but did not see one single reference to either candidate's gun policy as influencing the omaha mayoral election. There were several reasons offered as to why dem suttle lost & repub stothert one, but nothing about guncontrol. I will add stothert appears a fairly attractive female while suttle appears an aging white male.

Second point, nebraska is a solid red republican state Republican Dominated Nebraska Legislature Restores Prenatal Care For Undocu ... Lawmakers in Nebraska voted 30-16 on Wednesday to override Gov. Dave Heineman’s (R)..
So, SO WHAT? does anyone really think suttle getting elected would've meant much as far as nebraska state or national politics? nebraska voted romney solid.
Come back when you find something with meat & substance on it, va mtn man, cause this one fails the sobriety test. Republican wins Solid Red state mayoral race, doesn't quite cut it.
