The game was called "point 'em out, knock 'em out," and it was as random as it was brutal.
The object: Target an innocent victim for no other reason than they are there, then sucker punch him or her.
But on this day in Lansing, there would be no punch. The teen-age attacker had a stun gun. He did not know his would-be victim was carrying a legally concealed pistol.
The teen lost the game.

(43,888 posts)The victim because the taser did not fire.
The perp because the victim chose to fire low rather than going for the chest.
A bullet to the torax would have probably been fatal.

(4,941 posts)but in defensive shootings, adrenaline, sweating, shakes etc. affect the shooter. I don't think he intentionally fired low, but the perp is lucky he did.
One must now wonder, did the perp learn his lesson or will we read about him at some point in the future?

(43,888 posts)I don't think anybody comes out of those hell holes reformed.
You're right about the shot, though, probably low by accident, not design.

(7,720 posts)to use the stungun. In other versions of the game, the thugs just sucker punch their victims.
The link below is to a story where the young victim was killed by the sucker punch. The 17 year old perp is going to trial as an adult. Great fun, huh?

(14,912 posts)...used to play this about 30 years ago. My mom is the oldest of 10 kids, and my uncle was one of the youngest. He was 10 years older than me, and was always more of a big brother than an uncle. He was also my Sensei and my Mentor. We both worked at Aunt's biker bar as bouncers. Some nights, after just a little too much Jim Beam and cocaine, one of us would pick a random person out of the crowd and say "bet ya' can't knock *that* one out with one hit!". One thing I can say is that we never picked on any "small guys", either. We were both around 6'3" and 225-235 lbs, and chose someone bigger than ourselves, 9 out of ten times some big bear of a biker.
Looking back, it was a very cruel, and stupid, thing to do and we were lucky to get away without being shot or stabbed. Back then, though, were also yhe days when you could go out side, have a slobber-knocker, then come back in and have a beer, laughing through the suds-n-blood. Those days have long passed. Too many sissies out there now who think the way to act "manly" is to pull a gun and shoot someone.
The times, they are a changin'...

(7,720 posts)a college wrestler at 6'3" at the 190# weight class. Of course a couple years later I was your size but the difference was, I left the anger on the wrestling mat. I was never the fighter type, I was more the kind of guy to use my size to break up fights.
It appears you got caught up in the biker bar mentality back then. You probably would have kicked the shit out of me back then. Then again, I had a teammate who wrestled at 167# who may have kicked the shit out of you. I saw him fighting in a bare knuckles competition when he was sick, but he fought anyway. His appendix ruptured in the ring. Of course his IQ was only slightly higher than room temperature.

(486 posts)Seems like the shooter is the guy who got lucky. Ain't no reason to shoot a kid running away. He's lucky he aimed low and the kid is mostly alright.
That said, people playing this game might deserve a shot in the *ss . . .
