Watchdog Report: The holes in the SAFE Act

http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/article/20140112/NEWS/301120054/Watchdog-Report-holes-SAFE-Act

"We enforce the law, I want to make that clear,” Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith said. “However, I think it’s also important to say the SAFE Act was one of those laws that they wanted it bad, and I think they got it bad. The law is something that we took exception with when it was passed in the dead of night because a lot of the provisions in the law did not make sense."

Some of the stuff the SAFE act tried to do is good, like increasing penalties for gun related crimes, but in order to get it passed with other things in it like the AWB they had to do a half assed quickie job writing it and get it pushed through double time in the wake of Sandy Hook to take advantage of the wave of emotion.
