A veteran NYPD officer pleaded guilty Monday to charges he helped run a gun-smuggling operation with fellow police officers that trafficked more than $1 million in illegal weapons and stolen goods.

Twelve people were charged in the ring, including eight current and former NYPD officers. The FBI said the ring also sought to transport stolen goods like slot machines in exchange for payments.

Police departments in the US are allowed to buy military surplus automatic weapons which are illegal for civilian ownership, including the M-16s mentioned here.

about the cops fixing tickets and being bought, it sounds as though the Feds ought to be coming in with some RICO indictments for the NYPD.

and maybe evidence locker. The M-16s are full auto as were the MP-5s Lake County, IN cops sold on the black market. Oh yeah, assault rifles and sub-machine guns have been tightly regulated since 1934, but did not prevent Dillenger from stealing his from police armories (or Bonnie and Clyde from stealing their BARs from National Guard armories)

Were they able to get the results from the powdered aspirin back from the crime lab before Mayor Foot-In-Mouth gets up to speak at a press conference again?

100% of the sales made by the NYPD were illegal.

Yet there are those who cry about completely legal FTF private sales between two honest citizens.

ATF, same difference.

under Bloomberg at the NYPD, he can always point to them gun runnin' Mormons. I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for the Brady Bunch's new leader to comment on the issue.
