Top ten manufacturers of handguns sold in the US.

Last edited Sat Feb 15, 2014, 11:24 PM - Edit history (1)

The most prolific makes of handguns manufactured in the U.S., based on production statistics provided to ATF.

No. 1: Sturm, Ruger & Company. The gunmaker's Arizona plant churned out 610,925
pistols in 2011, nearly half of which were 9mm models.

Seems amazing somewhere can crank out 1673 guns a day every day. Either their operations are amazing or their guns are sloppy junk.

They have been making guns for a very long time, and they are very good at it.

They still make Single-Action Revolvers, and they sell a lot of those.

utilitarian, not especially attractive pistols that will function with monotonous regularity and built with strength that will keep them functioning years longer than their contemporaries.

My daily carry is a Ruger P345. It won't win any beauty contest but it is 100% reliable.

The article does not list the top ten handguns, it lists the top ten manufacturers of handguns.

... as my son and I are going to the range this afternoon to shoot .22s. I have two different Ruger 10/22 rifles, one a real tack driver, and a Ruger SR22 pistol with a suppressor. My son will bring his (my old) Ruger .22 bolt action rifle. We plan to have a couple hours of fun punching holes in paper and trying to out do each other with trick shots.

As far as manufacturing operations, Bill Ruger was one of the top innovators in firearms design and manufacturing in the 20th century. He is right up there with Stoner, Browning, Kalashnikov and Gaston Glock. His designs are definitely NOT junk.
