Man who briefly lost AR-15 rifle takes heat from both sides in gun debate

http://www.omaha.com/article/20140516/NEWS/140518765/1685#man-who-briefly-lost-ar-15-rifle-takes-heat-from-both-sides-in-gun-debate

An Omaha man who briefly lost a high-powered rifle has found himself in the middle of the gun debate.

The rifle, an AR-15 inside a case, fell off the back of his pickup, where he'd left it.

After searching along roads where he thought the gun may have fallen, Patrick Muhs, 44, of Omaha reported it missing May 8.

Muhs took the extra step of putting up signs along the road between his home and the workshop of his Gretna home improvement business. He said he posted the signs because he felt it would be an effective way to quickly find the gun.

The story indicates he acknowledged what he did was "stupid" in his own words; that would seem to be an acknowledgement that his action was, in that instance, irresponsible.

I cannot recall the NRA or anyone stating that there are "No irresponsible gun-toters". I do recall some data that supports the claim that persons who possess a CCW permit are, on average, more law-abiding that the general public. This would seem to follow given the additional scrutiny required to obtain a CCW permit.

DoJ funded study in the 1980s. Look up James Wright and Peter Rossi study. Bad guys buy their guns from fences and drug dealers, who ultimately get them from theft. They didn't go to gun shows or FFLs even before NICS.

After all, if we are "constantly" told what you claim we are, 5 cites should be embarrassingly simple.

I suspect, however, that your claim is embarrassingly false.

"We are constantly told by NRA and its enablers that there are no "irresponsible" gun-toters"

Some cement for the goalposts there, in case someone tries to move them.
