‘My Parents Open Carry’ kid’s book portrays day in the life of ‘typical’ gun nut family

The co-founders of Michigan Open Carry have published a children’s book extolling the virtues of having fun while openly brandishing loaded firearms.

My Parents Open Carry tells the story of “13-year-old Brenna Strong along with her mom, Bea, and her dad, Richard [spending] a typical Saturday running errands and having fun together,” according to the book’s official site. However, “[w]hat’s not so typical is that Brenna’s parents lawfully open carry handguns for self-defense.”

The book’s authors, Brian Jeffs and Nathan Nephew, claim that they were inspired to write the book because they “looked for pro-gun children’s books and couldn’t find any. Our goal was to provide a wholesome family book that reflects the views of the majority of the American people, i.e., that self-defense is a basic natural right and that firearms provide the most efficient means for that defense.”

In an interview with Armed American Radio, the official radio program of The United States Concealed Carry Association, Jeffs and Nephews said that the book represents “an open carry adventure” in which the Strong family goes to the grocery store and the book store and confronts people.

They are ignoring the directions of the Admins and locking posts that do not violate the new SOP of General Discussion. I hope things will improve when some of the longer serving hosts are retired. I expect to see some changes for the better in the next few days as host terms expire.

News stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about efforts to strengthen or weaken gun control legislation in any jurisdiction in the United States, national news stories (and related content) from reputable mainstream sources about high-profile gun crimes, and viral political content from social media or blogs that would likely be of interest to a large majority of DU members are permitted under normal circumstances.

here, the subject hadn't gone viral anymore than a cat passes on a fur ball to another cat. It was just Rawstory lobbing another spiraling Scud into a sand dune.

Pretty much the nutty fringe of progressives resorts to using such terms.

And, just reading over the replies, the only sensible one is the one that points out the false data cited in the shit article.

I posted as I posted so that adults in the room could have a discussion without the input of ignorant hoplophobes.

The author has provided their own point of view, added some reference to bad data, and there is already a discussion going on there.

In contrast, my OP posted a book, some excerpts and some links, and I leave it to my intelligent progressive brothers and sisters here on DU to initiate a new discussion without the biased commentary that Raw Story includes.

OBTW, the jury ruled 6:1 to leave.

So, what do you think? Is it a book to be banned, or should we take a look at it first?

I might buy the $3.00 PDF version just to satisfy my curiosity if it contains fair dialogue or if it really is the work of nuts.

Either could be true, but I would like to see a book of that nature done well, maybe a different book about our civil rights when challenged by police and it could include a section on the RKBA.

We often get requests from Tea Party Groups and home-schoolers for bulk discount orders.
White Feather Press does offer discounts on bulk orders.
