In one of the more shockingly tone-deaf events in recent memory, the shooting scandal-plagued Albuquerque Police Department and the National Rifle Association are gearing up for the Albuquerque Police Pistol Combat Tournament and National Police Shooting Championship in September.
Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry says that they are thrilled to host the eventbut the angry families of the many, many victims of recent police shootings in Albuquerque are calling the event "insulting" both to them and their city.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, armed security guards actually locked the doors to Mayor Berry's City Hall office on Wednesday after a small group of protestorsmostly the families of police shooting victimsattempted to personally deliver a letter condemning the event.

But it's a shame that the posting member won't engage in discussion.
That part I just don't understand.

And I'll bet I know who alerted on it.

When I think of actual insults, personal attacks, that go without alerts, much less hides, I find it disturbing that this wasn't a more clear vote to leave.
Admins at some sites are working on it, possibly a limit on alerts allowed or a filter to prevent repeat alerters from being hyperactive.
Be sure to use the "Jury Blacklist" feature to prevent up to 15 members from having a say in the process.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This poster continually disrupts threads with inane comments. Please hide
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Aug 30, 2014, 08:25 AM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: I'm torn, it does seem a rude way of saying they don't care about that article, which isn't necessary - seems to be directed at making fun of the poster for posting that article. Uncivil.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: While an obvious attempt to derail discussion, the content is not outside TOS. Instead of Alert, I'd use the Reply box and let him or her have the what's for. If the poster is a repeat turd, bring in MIRT.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alerts like this make DU suck. And I'm convinced that there are members who stalk other members in hopes of having them PPRed or stricken from groups or disqualified from being a host. There's nothing wrong with this reply, it's the truth, the OP perpetually drops turds into the RKBA forum but won't discuss them. They earn the disdain that is expressed by other members.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If you find yourself continually irritated by this poster, try the Ignore feature
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(15,396 posts)There used to be a coordinated effort to bait pro posters and draw them in over and over until something was good enough to get them bammified.
Now they're not organized enough (or talented) to get away with it anymore.
I guess being wrong on the 2A isn't enough for some...

(16,974 posts)I do find it very interesting that a host that so scrupulously enforces the SOP in the "safe haven" group he runs and has blocked 40 people always ignores this groups SOP. It is a sad day when one must censor their own posts calling that person out. It is even more of a disappointment when a post is alerted on that points that fact out. I feel it is only a few but they seem to have an agenda to come into this group that welcomes free and open discussion and abuse that privilege trying to get posts hidden. This group host has over 500 posts in this group using this cut and paste technique. He never comments and never discusses his posts. That my friends is in direct violation of this groups SOP and I would think this host should abide by the group SOP.
I am truly sorry and I know this is not a majority of the fine posters on the pro-control side of the issue. I do have to point out the facts.

(16,974 posts)the police practice in high stress environments under controlled conditions it might actually lower bad shootings. I seem to remember a lot of people calling for training and more training for people with weapons. I think that is really true with police officers lately as they have shown they are not well trained in this area.
blueridge3210
(1,401 posts)That level of training is expensive. Hiring people that can pass that level costs more; less likely to have time to supplement their income with second jobs.
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)Training is usually one of the first things cut. Ask me how I know as I am in the training field for the army ADA school.

The tactical control officer in the battery gave the order to fire on their Tornado GR4 on March 22 2003 because her radar had wrongly identified it as an anti-radiation missile (ARM), a weapon that could destroy the Patriot battery by homing in on the radiation it emitted.
The Oxfordshire assistant deputy coroner, Andrew Walker, heard that the battery had the particular task of dealing with ballistic missiles and its staff were not trained to deal with aircraft or ARMs.

Police shoot their weapons "every day"? Do you get your information from TV cop shows?
Lint Head
(15,064 posts)I get my information from a cross-section of media outlets and a personal acquaintance with many current and former police officers. They do not by any wild stretch of the imagination fire their weapons "every day."
Where did you get the notion that they do?
Lint Head
(15,064 posts)My others sources are also friends on the police force, sheriffs departments and the Military Police. My sister was in the FBI. I have a close friend who is a US Marshall. My sister worked for the FBI and my cousin was in the CIA (not a desk job). Not saying my sources are any better than yours but if this is a contest I'll gladly participate.
A "fun" convention should not be the way policemen learn to use their weapons. Killing is not a fun experience as a 9 year old child just learned the hard way. Maybe I need to clarify for you. Their "daily" job is to be a cop. Having "fun" practicing being a cop is not what law "enforcement" is about. Knowing how and when to shoot a gun is probably one of the most important parts of their job. The "most" important part is knowing the Constitutional rights of the very citizens they could arrest and kill. I never specifically said in my reply to the OP that they "shoot" their guns every day. They "very" thing they do is to be a police officer. That includes knowing "when" to shoot which they apparently have a problem with and just one killing of an innocent person is too many.
The NRA is a corporate shill for gun manufacturers.

(6,622 posts)I reiterate: You said this:
vacation from their other daily duties by practicing the very thing they do every day.
What "tools of death" did you mean if not guns? What does one practice at a gun competition except shooting? You "never specifically said that they shoot every day," eh? So what did you mean by the above?
So these sources of yours -- FBI, CIA, US Marshalls -- tell you that law enforcement officers shoot every day? Really? If not, what are you disputing? Are you trying to make a "contest" where there is none? Why?
Should police not practice shooting? Knowing when to shoot is very serious business. Knowing how to shoot can be made more interesting by competition.
And WTF does any of this have to do with the NRA?

(15,064 posts)as opposed to debate. You seem to be intelligent so you know what happens when you assume. Tap dancing? I've heard of the references to shooting at someone's feet to make them "tap dance". Two for tea and tea for two. So I'll dance as opposed to the verbal assault.

(6,622 posts)I asked you some legitimate questions. You would appear to be more interested in posting cartoons than in responding.
Pretending I made an assumption when I took your words at the most obvious meaning is a tiresome dodge.
The "Tea For Two" tap-dance is a reference to Johnny Carson's response when he was bombing. You know: When your words are failing, you may as well dance.

(15,396 posts)I've been to a couple of 3 gun matches this year with some of my shooting buddies. Lot's of stuff to learn if you like shooting fast and accurately.
One of my co-workers is in his first one today, but I have a gun show to attend so I'm going to miss it.
These are good for the LEO's to get into, it gives them more trigger time and experience of shooting under pressure. Even if it's just pressure of the clock of the next best shooter.
