GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A man openly carrying his new handgun was robbed on a Gresham street by a man with a gun of his own.

Police were called out to the area of 172nd and Glisan Street at 2:10 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said the 21-year-old victim bought a handgun earlier in the day and was openly carrying it while talking to his cousin.

They said a man approached them and asked for a cigarette. Talk eventually turned to the victim's new purchase, before the robber pulled his own gun from his waistband and said, "I like your gun, give it to me," according to police.

The victim handed over his gun and the suspect ran away.

Open carry as a form of everyday self-defense would seem to be less effective than concealed-carry.

Yep. On balance, concealed-carry is the best choice. Eleanors38 Oct 2014 #5

the same category with phoning the police when one sees another carrying a long gun; bb gun, toy, whatever. Boy, that'll show 'em!

"What could go wrong?"

it's just a few armed felonies and guns getting into the hands of violent criminals- it gives people a good laugh. It's not like someone could get killed or anything.
{I don't think really I need the tag here}

Time and again we see examples the show the ant-gun movement is all about the GUNZ. Crime and violence has nothing to do with it. Guns and evil and must be removed from the hands of citizens, consequences be damned. (and nobody come in here saying no one wants to take away all guns- many are saying that, there's just no legislation being proposed at this time)

I have little doubt that had Mr. Crawford been an open carry person who was shopping with an actual firearm, the outrage seen would instead be -he got what he had coming. (Not that I approve of such form of carry but I am more opposed to people being killed when not breaking any law)

makes sense - you need more violence to whip up that good old moral panic that fuels the gun control movement.

Thanks for your honesty.

I'm not talking about the activists.

Open carry as a form of everyday self-defense would seem to be less effective than concealed-carry.

I have a carry permit and I don't feel the need to carry a weapon everywhere. I also work in areas where I need to, like two of the top ten bad cities. So I open carry about 10% of the time. Every time I've made a stop, people approached me. When I open carried no one did that. It can be an effective deterrent if your objective is to avoid any conflict.

Good news is this dummy can now go buy a Shield.

I open carry my SR22 when fishing. I suppose the same thing could happen to me...note to self don't let scum bags linger nearby too long.
