Firearms instructor Darryl Montague, shot by student at Vermont firing range.

The suspect, Veronica Lewis, 31, of Worcester, Vt., arrested shortly after the shooting, has been charged with first-degree attempted homicide. She pleaded not guilty to the charge the following day and is being held without bail.

Montague said the shooting occurred during the middle of Lewis's second lesson with her husband. The woman's motive was a simple one, she said.

"She wanted the gun, she shot him with his gun and took it," Montague said. "It was a random interaction, it had no relationship to him at all. He was just a means to an end. It was that cold."

The Burlington Free Press reported that Lewis is subject to an order out of New York that prevents her from possessing or purchasing a firearm, court records show.

Mustn't let some silly thing like empathy get in the way of an important agenda, eh?

...non-whites are acceptable when mediagenic and/or victims of a white perpetrator.

Urban victims are only useful en masse in order to provide statistics, while gun owners (or even those merely seeking to buy a gun for self defense) are 'beyond the pale'

only the paragraphs that addressed the criminal. You skipped the first nine paragraphs about the victim.

Goes to show what you find important.

A gofundme page, set up to defray those costs, had raised $26,500 by the time of publication. Click here for a link to the page, which includes periodic updates on Montague's progress.

So, with all the talk on DU about "alert stalking," "ganging up," and "trolling," not withstanding, perhaps the rest of DU has found that corner in its collective psyche where once the peculiar pleasures of moral indignation play out, it can look both ways and tip toe through the Green Door and indulge all they want.

But I have had at least one member following my posts and pushing the alert button so I am very careful and try and post my side to the jury. It is normally an uphill battle fir any firearms owner here on DU.
