As the incoming U.S. elections fire up policy debate and the frequency of Republican candidates dropping the word 'Freedom,' former Prime Minister John Howard has appeared on television in the nation most famous for its mass shootings to defend Australia's strict gun legislation.

Howard was impressively able to pull together a defence of the zero mass shootings in Australia since 1996 on the program, broadcast just a few days after a mass shooting in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania claimed 5 lives.

Appearing on CBS' Sunday Morning, the former PM stated “Are we seriously still debating this? For Christ's sake, guys. I mean, far out.”
