NAACP weighs in on what they say is a "Stand Your Ground" case against Jacksonville woman

“This is a clear case of domestic violence against Marissa,” branch President Isaiah Rumlin said Friday. “After looking into it and studying the case, this is a clear case of Stand Your Ground as it relates to what she had to do on the date that she did it.”

Isn't there a certain irony going on here that the NAACP is invoking a "shoot first" law for the defense?

...as I'm pretty sure they didn't blame the SYG law in the Martin case to begin with.

it was people speaking for the NAACP, not actual members. -my bad

Yet is this an SYG situation? For those who oppose SYG laws, should her conviction be upheld?

... into the ceiling??? I admit I don't know the first thing about this case, except that no one was killed or injured by the defendant.

If someone is trying to equate this with the Martin/Zimmerman case, that's a big difference. We have a dead young man here, dead for no reason.

Warning shots were a good thing according to anti's up until a young lady in Alabama was hit by one. Now they're a bad thing.

I'm so confused

She needs some training, specifically in the legal and moral aspects of deadly force.

She should either have shot her assailant, or not displayed the weapon.
