http://www.click2houston.com/news/HCSO-Man-opens-fire-during-drug-related-home-invasion/-/1735978/13056974/-/jdhaqp/-/HOUSTON -
A robber was shot in a drug-related home invasion in northwest Harris County on Thursday, detectives said.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said a woman was leaving her home in the 10500 block of Waving Fields Drive in the Harvest Bend subdivision about 8 a.m.
Detectives said the woman forgot something inside and three armed, masked men followed her as she went back inside, where her 12-year-old son and boyfriend were.
One of the robbers grabbed the 12-year-old, investigators said.
The boyfriend, who is the boy's father, opened fire on the robbers, wounding one of them in the shoulder, deputies said.
The robbers then ran away. The wounded suspect was dropped off at Katy Methodist Hospital. He was released from the hospital and detectives took him back to the scene.
The other two men got away, investigators said. Descriptions of them have not been released.
The couple's hands were bagged and they were each placed in patrol cars.
The boyfriend admitted to an extensive history of selling drugs, deputies said.
Investigators said about $15,000 in cash, methamphetamines and marijuana were found inside the home.

From the comments section there is this additional information from a neighbor:
Ha.. This is right down the street from my house. A known drug house to the HOA in a modest neighborhood. Even the local constables know it... Maybe they'll clear out now. I believe they are just renters, and the boyfriend drives a pimp-daddy candy-apple red Cadillac with a continental kit, and some of those rims (I think they're called swangas).

Obviously drug dealing charges should be filed. How would you view the shooting? There is no mention of a prior conviction so he may have had a clean record.
Side issue - If drugs were legal this guy would be a legitimate home businessman defending his family and business.

(4,986 posts)1. it depends upon his criminal record
if he is a convicted felon, then he should be held for illegal possession of a firearm.

(10,136 posts)3. The drug charges are obvious.
I can see child-endangerment being added to the drug charges.
According to the minimal article, the shooting is valid defensive shooting.
The only remaining question is whether the gun was legally owned or not.
