Basic questions

5- Are there hard statistics from multiple demographically diverse areas showing that more guns cause more crime?

4- How hard is it to understand and correctly use the terms "magazine" and "clip"?

3- How does a bayonet lug make a rifle more deadly?

2- The media misuses the term "assault rifle" often enough that I sometimes think that they must be getting paid to do so. Who's footing that bill?

1- Is anyone bothered by the term "control" in gun-control?

most blow asses don't know the difference between assault and "assault" rifle.

Most also probably don't understand the difference between automatic rifle and machine gun for that matter.

The mag v clip thing is kind of a regional slang IMHO. I was raised to call any magazine a clip...it's only since the innerwebs rolled around that I've started using the proper term for each.

I know more guns cause more crime I read it often...

Sure it is. However, my point from a prior post is that control is a myth: http://www.democraticunderground.com/117257157

As far as knowing the difference between "automatic rifle" (sometimes called sub-machine gun) and "machine gun", I know but machine gun is used so much less by the media. Not that I give them much credit for that because I believe they have a list of buzz words they like to work in. Machine gun just sounds so 1930's.

I have no problem with individuals using the term "clip" and "magazine" mostly interchangeably but reading it from a news source just smacks of ignorance. People trust the media. I don't much care that maybe the Weekly World News wouldn't know the difference between an AK-47 and an AC-47 but I wouldn't bet much money on the networks knowing either.

I figure that common sense gun control figured out that more guns must lead to more crime.

Basic questions

5- Are there hard statistics from multiple demographically diverse areas showing that crime would increase with less guns? In fact, do we know how low crime rates might fall if there were a whole lot less guns?

4- Who cares whether someone calls it a "magazine" or "clip"? -- both feed bullets to chamber if you blast away at someone. In fact, why do gun fanatics think someone can't express an opinion about guns in public, or the proliferation of guns in general, just because they haven't wasted time learning weapon nomenclature.

3- Why are you attracted to military/tactical type weapons, this is not a war zone?

2- Why do most people understand what an "assault rifle" is, but gun nuts? In fact, why are pro-gunners attracted to such weapons?

1- We control a lot of bad habits and activities like smoking in public; child porn; bigotry; explosives; fireworks; knives/swords in public; vehicle speed; pollution; noise; etc. -- Why not yahoos walking around in public with guns, or folks who have a cache of weapons in their home?

There are more questions about people and their guns, but wouldn't want to insult anyone.

"We" have numerous laws, restrictions and prohibitions. Since we also have numerous criminals, malcontents and non-conformists, we don't really "control" those things.

"...wouldn't want to insult anyone." Too late.

people do not know what an assault rifle is judging from the comments I've read on-line in response to the tragedy in Colorado. The last time an assault rifle was used in a crime in the United States was the infamous 1997 North Hollywood bank robbery and shootout in which the only people killed were the two bank robbers.

Semi-autos are just as deadly as full auto. You guys just like your guns looking like military tactical weapons, it gets those baser hormones flowing or something.

few people would agree with your statement that a semi-auto rifle is just as deadly as a fully automatic rifle. The fact that an automatic weapon discharges so many more bullets in a short period of time is the basic reason why they are so highly regulated. They are almost never used in crimes in the U.S. but the general public is mostly unaware of that fact because there is so much disinformation about guns in the media, both intentionally and unintentionally.

People kill. Would you blame the Mona Lisa on DaVinci's paintbrush? It must have been a REALLY good brush to make that painting.

Not that it matters, but Zimmerman only fired on shot and it was from a handgun. It might as well have been a muzzle loader because he only fired one shot.

Research before you let the garbage floweth free.

Everyone knows the Right Wingers love their guns, and a majority of Dems on this forum, including myself, seem to possess and enjoy firearms as well. It's apolitical. Gun control is the third rail in politics right now and for the foreseeable future. We'll always have the usual hoplophobic loons supporting gun bans(Feinstein, Schumer, Lautenberg), but they'd get elected in their districts even if they lit a live kitten on fire. Our last Dem governor was one of the strongest Pro-2A supporters I've ever known, Ted Strickland. We miss him.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go shoot guns with my parents and I encourage others to do the same. Then, I'm going to post a flyer for my concealed carry class at the local gun store and get more law abiding citizens to take responsibility for their own safety. If you're in Ohio, you're welcome to attend.

Good luck with the imminent impending unstoppable gun ban. Keep fighting the good fight.

I've heard every stupid right wing talking point many times.

You guys gonna practice shooting people with silhouette targets?

Sorry, I'm against carrying in public, and can defend myself without a gun. Nor do I profit off guns.

Enjoy your guns, maybe someday you'll grow up.

Firearms favor the physically weaker party.

You can try to deride any valid conclusion with the term "talking point" which you seem to think is a slur. Your relabeling efforts are seen by all and found wanting.

...to #2, The media misuses the term "assault rifle" often enough that I sometimes think that they must be getting paid to do so. Who's footing that bill? You answered: "false premise".

And I grant you, it is. However, we all have our pet peeves and that's one of mine. Further, while maybe not this issue, would equivalent issues, particularly errors in terminology bother you?

ETA: BTW sorry about that reverse order thing.
