http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/guns/new-york-arsenal-gun-control-billsALBANY If Gov. Cuomos appetite for more gun control is serious, theres no shortage of bills on the menu.
From microstamping shell casings and banning assault weapons, to toughening penalties for lax storage, teaching anti-gun violence in schools and providing tax credits for the purchase of gun safety equipment, lawmakers are pushing more than a dozen measures to beef up New Yorks already tough gun-control laws.
Cuomo last week called the increase in gun violence undeniable following the massacres in Colorado and Wisconsin, as well as shootings in the city.
But if Republicans retain control of the state Senate in November, Cuomos storied arm-twisting abilities could be tested when the Legislature reconvenes next year.

(881 posts)That's the only part I'd be ok with. Hopefully his attempt at further limiting the constitutional rights of the citizens of his state is unsuccessful.

(18,585 posts)I mean, since that's all it takes to defeat microstamping.
How's that CoBIS system working out, again? Oh right, they scrapped it as useless.

(54,770 posts)You afraid it might reduce the potential market for the guns you are hoarding for profit?

(18,585 posts)Just goes to show how moronic the idea is.
But of course the idea isn't to actually trace guns, it's to make the patent holder rich, while increasing the cost of firearms.

(54,770 posts)investigating people just like we do we explosives, etc., is needed.
We need to start teaching that guns are as wrong as smoking in public; polluting; flying confederate flags (which most inclined are also gun cultists); torturing horses for Dressage; spousal abuse (which guns play a big part); and all that lame crud. Might as well start now.

(2,239 posts)You could hang out at gun shows, get in touch with your inner billionaire, have your own armed security, melt some guns on TV and teach children about "evil toters". It'd be a great way to get in touch with your authoritarian side.
At least think it over a little. You know you'd love it.

(881 posts)See there's the problem, I have no problem with something like the NRA's "Eddie Eagle" classes in school but I'll be damned if I'll support a class that demonizes gun ownership.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)How can the guns themselves be 'wrong'? Of course the misuse of guns is wrong, but the misuse of a lot of things is wrong. Drinking and driving is of course wrong, but is the automobile 'wrong'? How is that even possible?

(256 posts)Cuz that's about all I see from you. Why not try to add positively to the debate? You might actually have something we can learn,
Oh, who am I kidding?
Just for the record, microstamping is a waste of time and money and probably won't solve one crime. All one has to do is just fire off about 50 rnds and the stamp won't be readable, how do you propose to fix that problem?
Face it, your all hat with no head to put it on.

(256 posts)That's when we know that you all have lost the debate, you start with the NRA bad, NRA evil, NRA talking points, etc.
Well, I expected nothing less. Have a good night and I'll probably talk atcha tomorrow.

(5,417 posts)Or just replace the firing pin. I don't think a lot of people realize how easy it is to replace a firing pin. On my AR-15, I could swap a firing pin in 2 minutes. In fact, every tme the gun is cleaned the firing pin is removed. Its part of the cleaning process.
Or plan B, use a revolver.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)If you decide to carry a revolver because you are afraid you might need to skedatal, police would still be able to get useful info. I really believe some of you are afraid of incriminating yourself if m-stamping were law.
Equate
(256 posts)Why waste the time and taxpayer's money with a useless law? Surely the money can be better spent? What, if any, would your solution be to the problem of the stamp wearing off after about 50-100 rnds being fired off?

I just want to know, how much is the NRA paying you guys to cluck like chickens?
My partner and I are in stitches over reading your comic gems. Please please please: more posts like this one!

(49,445 posts)Huh? Were they teaching pro-gun violence in school before? Are they not going to mention non-gun violence? Or is this just the typical fixation on the object rather than the problem?
Are they going to discourage gun ownership? Is it right and proper for the government to encourage restriction and non-exercise of a constitutional right?
Jenoch
(7,720 posts)"teaching anti-gun violence in schools" actually mean? Will it be the teachers telling the students how bad guns are?
What should be taught in the schools is gun safety so if any of the students to happen to come across a gun they know enough about guns to not shoot themselves or others. Too often some idiot kid who does not know anything about guns thought the gun was 'empty' because they removed the magazine and are too ignorant of guns to realize there is or could be a round in the chamber.
