Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumTwo significant problems with "one gun a month" and "Waiting periods"
I was just sitting here in my comfy chair, taking detailed notes for my armory records, of my TWO latest purchases.. I am a collector of historically significant firearms. Some in my collection are over 100 years old, some where made new in the 1990's. ALL are historically relevant, some are VERY significant and rare pieces.
That being said, I am at that point in my collecting, that I have practically ALL that I want, minus a few "hard to find" weapons, so my rate of acquisition is very low. Actually until last week, I had not added a firearm to it for about 3 years.
Let me get to the point...
One day last week, as I was working (I drive for a living), their was a major backup on the interstate, to not be stuck in traffic, I used the "back roads" to get around. On my ride through the rural areas, I stumbled over a pawn shop. I like to stop and check them out when I can, you well make amazing finds at pawn shops. I stumbled over a historically significant rifle there! He had a M91 Mosin Nagant rifle in his shop, along with a few others. The rifle was in very good shape, and basically complete. What made this rifle very special was who made this Russian rifle... "Remington" During WW1, the Russians, found themselves desperate for rifles, and contracted with American manufactures "Remington" and "New England" to manufacture Mosin Nagants for them...Only a few of the order was delivered due to the bolsheviks taking power, The rifles are very uncommon, most Mosin Rifles found are of Soviet origin and not by any means rare, the American ones are..... The owner did not price them any differently for rarity...I walked out of the shop $125 dollars lighter, with about a 3 to 4 hundred dollar rifle in my hand. It is not my job to price his stock, he should know what he has.
I am very proud of my purchase, and rightfully so. Later on, when I got back to my company's office, the gate guard noticed my new rifle, and asked me about it, so I explained it too him. He told me that he had an Enfield carbine that he had owned since the 1960's, he was wanting to sell it, but figured no one would want an "old 303"
I told him, if it was still all original, I would be interested in looking at it, so we met at his home nearby.
He uncased, one of the BEST LOOKING Lee Enfield No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbines I had EVER seen! Actually it was NEW.
He had an early import of the rifle, that had only been fired dozen times since the mid 1960's It was one of the "new in the wrap" rifles that show up from time to time, with BIG BUCKS price tags. And completely untouched, down to a correct sling! He offered to sell it too me for $200, I have no problem just handing a pawn broker his asking price if it is wayyyyy low, But I will not do it to an individual. I told him upfront, that his rifle was worth far more than $200, it was worth closer to $600. He was very happy, and I offered him $400 for the rifle "on the spot" I had just bought another rifle so I was running short of funds) He said he was going on vacation and the $400 would be fine, and thanked me for my honesty!
In many states, these to purchases, of BOLT ACTION rifles, would be very illegal, simply because I bought two, in the same day. But when their RARITY and my 30 years of active collection of these sort of weapons I learned long ago, that the time to buy, is when you find what your looking for.
Also, keep in mind, that it only takes ONE gun to have a "spree" with so these restrictions are very pointless.... Even more so when you realize that many gun owners, including myself, have "more than one gun" already.
So exactly what is the point of a waiting period, when you already have a gun at home, it is nothing but simple harassment is what it is.
Also "one gun a month" is a joke, if straw purchasers is the problem, arrest them, after all they have broken federal law.

(5,455 posts)we both know your post was an attempt to imply that the OP was a liar when he stated that some states require transfer through an FFL for private sales of long guns.

And I don't listen/watch/read Rush, Hannity, Beck or any other RW radio/TV people.

"Feinstein said on CBS-TV's 60 Minutes, February 5, 1995, "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them . . . Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in, I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here."
They may not want my stuff, but they sure want my money.
