Gun Control & RKBA

Nine passers-by were also wounded, and it seems almost certain that some or all were accidentally hit by the police. This isnt surprising; its only in movies that people are good shots during a violent encounter. In 2008, Al Baker reported in The Times that the accuracy rate for New York City officers firing in the line of duty was 34 percent.
And these are people trained for this kind of crisis. The moral is that if a lunatic starts shooting, you will not be made safer if your fellow average citizens are carrying concealed weapons.

(20,709 posts)In high stress situations, even trained police officers only have a 34% hit rate. Of course, every gun nut and his cousin Bubba thinks they are better trained that professional police officers, but the reality is that the last thing you want is some concealed carry yahoo deciding to play hero on the crowded streets of New York.

(4,941 posts)and shot 9 innocent bystanders?
Police get a pass. What about it?

(2,038 posts)And that 34% includes ALL shootings including against animals and in suicides where the NYC police are involved. Many LE agencies post far better numbers where they are using weapons without unneeded modification and have better training. Upwards of 60%+ first shot hit rates. Get your facts straight Danny, you've had plenty of time.

Better trained in handling firearms? You betcha.

(8,142 posts)They all need to re-qualify with their firearms, only thing is they'd have to go to a gun friendly state to get enough practice. That was your point, right? Not making any comment yourself that is all anyone can assume.
