Gun control legislation advances in Illinois state Senate

http://rt.com/usa/news/illinois-assault-weapon-ban-255/

A state Senate panel in Illinois has approved bans on both assault weapons and high capacity clips. A floor vote on the measures, which come in the wake of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting massacre, is expected on Thursday.

The two initiatives were backed by the historically Democrat-dominated Senate Public Health Committee.

“The goal is to reduce the amount of incidents that occur where there are a significant amount of people shot in a short period of time,” said state Senator Dan Kotowski, one of the ban's sponsors, the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper reported.

Gun advocates fought both measures, arguing that they would unnecessarily restrict responsible gun owners and threaten thousands of jobs at the state’s 60 gun manufacturers, Illinois-based daily the Pantagraph reported.

These are all major manufacturers with global sales networks mind you. there are numerous smaller Cottage industry type firearm enterprises in every state. 60 is not an unreasonable number. There are also numerous support industries that exist only because of these manufacturers-lots of jobs going bye bye in other words.

... and took a bunch of high-end machinist jobs with him.

The Quad cities area around Geneseo on the Mississippi has dozens of large and small producers of components and complete firearms. Springfield is far and away the largest. No more M1A's, or M1 Garand replicas, both are banned in this "insightful" bill as are pump shotguns and semi auto shotguns.

I expect most of them have teams working on relocation options.

There are also several producers of AR components with government contracts that will be forced to move if this gets passed.

But Illinois is already 48th in job creation, so no problem. Besides I'm sure the gun control people will find jobs for all the skilled machinists and others that lose their jobs making death spewers. After all Illinois actually had 1 murder with a rifle in 2011, so it's worth major legislation that costs thousands of jobs and makes felons out of target shooters and pheasant hunters to try and prevent that murder.

McDonald's is probably hiring, right?

Now they're trying to ban the same rifles and shotties people use there.

They spent millions on the new complex, held national skeet and trap events there and have a high power rifle and pistol range as well as regular youth training programs for gun safety.

But even if these morons manage to pass this (current odds are below 50% at best and the last 2 attempts couldn't get anywhere close to a majority with the same legislature), they'll be in court again with their pants down paying the NRA and ISRA big bucks for another unconstitutional gun ban.

But it's not like it's their money and the gun control people sure won't give them any financial support, only "moral" support. Which is what they always do. Heaven forbid they ever think of ever actually think of reaching for their checkbooks to back up their whining.

In the meantime ... the clock is still ticking to what is now a 130 day deadline for a concealed carry law in Illinois ... or we go constitutional carry.

since it bans a lot of "Fudd guns", and I notice it was an amendment to a bill that had nothing to with guns.

Considering the checks Illinois and Chicago have already written to pay the legal bills of the SAF, NRA and ISRA over the past few years for the McDonald, Ezell etc. cases, and most recently getting their ass handed to them on the CCW requirement, this could make Illinois the single biggest contributor for another year or two.

I'm sure, based on the money they'll get, they'll throw in a few free memberships.

I just wonder which magazine Rahm and the Governor will choose?

http://www.suntimes.com/news/escalona/17345909-452/drug-cartels-bring-violence-to-chicago-streets.html

Guns, drugs and gangs are involved in most homicides in Chicago. Add the long arm of the Mexican drug cartels, which supply most drugs in the Midwest, and we have a deadly mix.

I guess banning honest citizens from owning firearms will prevent drug cartels from bringing ATF supplied assault weapons back into the US. YUP

SPRINGFIELD — There’s not enough support in the Illinois Senate to impose tough new restrictions on semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

In a setback for gun-control advocates in the wake of the killings of school children in Connecticut, the Illinois Senate was poised to adjourn Thursday without voting on two pieces of legislation aimed at limiting access to certain kinds of weapons and bullets.

Although the two proposals could emerge again when the legislature reconvenes next week, the lack of action shows the General Assembly remains divided on how to balance Second Amendment issues.

A spokeswoman for Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, offered no timetable for when the gun safety proposals might surface again.

“We will take some time to work on these important issues to advance them in the near future,” Rikeesha Phelon noted in a message to reporters.

One proposal would restrict the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic weapons, including handguns and rifles.

The National Rifle Association lobbied against the measure, saying the ban would take as many as 50 percent of long guns off the market in Illinois. Gun manufacturers also said the proposal could force them to lay off workers.
