NSA abuses include Stalking ex-Girlfriends
Posted on 08/24/2013 by Juan Cole

We have HUMINT, or human intelligence gathered from agents. We have SIGINT or signals intelligence. And now we have LOVEINT or NSA analysts occasionally reading the emails of ex-lovers. It doesn’t happen a lot, the NSA told the WSJ, but often enough that there is a word for it.

The NSA only admitted this abuse to the Senate Intelligence committee a few days ago.

The NSA has dealt with the spying scandal with the classic techniques of government manipulation of the public: Deny for as long as possible, then make few gradual small admissions, so when the big abuses come out the press views the story as stale and is unconcerned about the new scale of abuse coming out.

~snip~

Yet to come: revelations that the British GCHQ, having been paid $150 million to do it, spies on Americans for the NSA & then shares the info

If there is anybody here who still defends the spying on US citizens as necessary to prevent terrorism, here is why it is such a very bad idea.

Next we'll find out they were selling the information to interested parties.

All the other uses are secondary. "terrorism" merely is a rational,. all admit abuses are tertiary,. .

Why would those working at the NSA, who have no respect for human decency and the rule of law (particularly the Fourth Amendment) stop at the opportunity to get back at people (such as former girlfriends) and get rich?

Can any modern President, except for perhaps Jimmy Carter, claim that?

Now I'd like to hear the defenders of our "Intelligence Empire" explain again how only conspiracy nuts think that mass collection of communications into and out of D. C. just before the 2008 election was caused by anything other than accidental use of the wrong area code. Give me a fucking break!

The NSA is completely out of control. It needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up, with real oversight and control by reliable authority included this time. No agency which has such power and operates in such secrecy can be trusted to not abuse its legal mandate.

Copyrights and patents went out the window long ago. Just go to China, Korea or any number of countries. You can make, reproduce or duplicate anything you want. Not flaming you, just sayin'!
