Attorney seeks records in Naval Academy case

ANNAPOLIS, Md.

An attorney for the alleged victim in a sexual assault case involving two U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen is asking for court records.

Ryan Guilds wrote an email this week to the academy's superintendent, noting it would not be an issue to obtain similar documents from a civilian court.

Guilds is seeking an investigating officer's report that recommended against court-martialing the defendants. The officer's 171-page report, obtained by The Associated Press last month, cited credibility issues with the case due to the woman's testimony and statements.

Vice Adm. Michael Miller, the superintendent, referred two of three students to courts-martial despite that investigating officer's recommendation.
