Fortified tactical vehicle offered to replace military Humvee
By Scott Huddleston : January 2, 2014 : Updated: January 4, 2014 7:50pm

SAN ANTONIO — A prototype of what could be the standard U.S. military land vehicle of the future will be among many interactive, adrenaline-pumping displays and simulators at a free public event Friday and Saturday.

Lockheed Martin's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, or JLTV, is in the running to replace the Humvee as the go-to vehicle of the Army and Marine Corps.

Two models of the vehicle developed by Lockheed will be displayed at the U.S. Army Strong Zone, set up outside Sunset Station for Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome.

~snip~

The Defense Department plans to order 55,000 vehicles to replace its Humvees, with costs capped at $250,000 per vehicle.

unhappycamper comment: As far as I know few, if any, products produced by the MIC has come in at or under cost.

I wonder how long it'll be before they just slap one of these bodies on a GMC frame and chassis, sort of like what the civilian HMMWVs became...

Not that I'm a fan of civilian HMMWVs, but if you're going to get one you might as well get the real thing. It makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit kind of like when I see a 6 cylinder Mustang. Why get a Mustang if you aren't going to even get the real engine for it?
