If this is the case, Mr. Snowden has just given aid to the enemy..
Mr. Snowden may have just taught our enemies how to HIDE themselves from our intelligence organizations...and isn't that just...LOVELY? NOT. I have never thought Mr. Snowden to be a hero of any kind and never will..

(36,281 posts)You support widespread surveillance without probable cause?

(177 posts)I am not saying it's without warrant. Our enemies, and yes we have them, and YES I am a STRONG liberal democrat, have changed with the times. CYBER-SECURITY is THE threat of our times. They have changed their means, their targets, their strategies. All this surveillance is not for....nothing. I don't believe. To each his own.

(4,407 posts)I've heard this said a lot, but don't know what the evidence is for it. Granted, our infrastructure, like power, is probably very open to attack and I'm sure other infrastructure is as well but the solution to these problems is not to ignore them or try to prevent people from exposing the flaws. The solution is to fix the flaws.
If this is what you're referring to, then Snowden makes little difference. Eventually someone will find the flaws and exploit them, so having them exposed now is probably a good thing rather than find out they've been hacked months or years later.
As for releasing information not specifically targeted to just what the government is doing to us, that's true. Snowden released a lot of information, a lot of it very relevant to us, some that could be used against us. I'll take the slight increase in risk to shine light on the criminal things our government does.
When the founders of this country gave England the finger, they took some risk to get their freedom. We should be willing to take some risk to keep it.

Maybe not your hero but a hero to millions around the world.

(177 posts)Even Richard Clarke, former terrorism czar and cyber security expert agrees and said this a short time ago:
"IF THIS IS TRUE, then Snowden has just helped Iran, China, terrorists and others by telling them how to stop US intelligence collection on them. Seems to me these are legitimate intelligence collection. NSA should be doing this to protect he US.
So do you still think that Snowden should be given the Nobel Peace Prize? He has crossed the line several times and is demonstrably making us less safe. Its clear cut." Richard Clarke.

(26,795 posts)Go live in one of the countries that lack even a veneer of democracy and let us know how it works out.
K?
We are living in different times now. Our enemies have shifted their means, their strategies, their targets. I don't believe for a minute this is all useless surveillance.
