A Fort Hood solider currently facing federal explosives charges asked his wife to hide evidence, and showed an interest in “doomsday preparation” and anti-government conspiracy theories in the months leading up to his arrest, according to court documents released this week.

Spc. Jason Alan Garthwaite Sr., of Copperas Cove, was arrested in September after investigators found a bag containing pipe bombs and bomb-making materials at his residence.

Documents filed by the U.S. Attorney’s office stated Garthwaite sent his wife text messages while he was at Fort Hood’s Criminal Investigation Division office on Sept. 10.

The court documents stated that in one of those messages, Garthwaite said something to the effect of: “If I send a text of 999 will you go to the garage and hide the blue bag, and take all the pyrodex out?”
