Al Qaeda's chief bombmaker is believed to have been killed in an ambush by U.S- backed special forces in Yemen.
A 4x4 vehicle, believed to be carrying Ibrahim al-Asiri, 32, mastermind of the 'underwear bomb plot', was engaged in a gun battle with special forces, dropped in by helicopter.
Witnesses have described seeing soldiers take up position in the road, waiting for the vehicle to pass before opening fire.

I really want to understand your objection to this response to a series of very aggressive and terroristic acts of war. This guy was also the inkjet bomb guy, the body bomb guy, and a trainer of bombers. And we really don't know if all of his bombs didn't work--there are plenty of bombings where we haven't identified the perps; particularly in cases involving the Sunni-Shi'a divide in Iraq.

"Al Qaeda's underwear bomb plot mastermind killed by special forces in 'biggest hit since Bin Laden'"
I mean, if someone asked you twenty years ago to make up the headlines for 2014, would you have even considered something like that? It sounds like parody.
