The Navy’s recently released 2015 30-year shipbuilding plan says the service is in danger of not realizing its anticipated vision for a fleet size of more than 300 ships and submarines because there simply is not enough money available to meet stated requirements.

Let's talk numbers:

The USS Gerald R Ford (aircraft carrier under construction) will come in somewhere between $16 ~ $40 billion dollars. Previous Nimitz-class carriers cost around $4.5 billion dollars.

Zumwalt-class destroyers (under construction) will cost at least $5.6 billion dollars. Arleigh Burke-class destroyers cost at least $1.8 billion dollars.

Littoral Combat Ships currently cost over $600 million dollars each. The Navy's Bluewater plan listed these at $200 million dollars. Generally speaking these things are nothing more than target barges - a 57mm popgun? Really?

The list goes on and on and on.
