U.S. won't drop conspiracy charge against 9/11 plot suspects

(Reuters) - The Pentagon appointee overseeing the Guantanamo war crimes court refused on Friday to drop conspiracy charges against five accused plotters of the September 11 attacks despite the chief prosecutor's concerns that the charge might not withstand appeals.

The decision announced by the Pentagon means the alleged mastermind of the hijacked plane attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four other captives could be tried on a charge that the prosecutor acknowledged might not have been recognized as a war crime when the attacks occurred in 2001.

In addition to the conspiracy charge, the defendants face murder and other charges that could lead to their execution if they are convicted in the tribunal at the Guantanamo Bay U.S. Naval Base in Cuba.

The chief prosecutor, Brigadier General Mark Martins, asked the Pentagon appointee, Retired Admiral Bruce MacDonald, to dismiss the conspiracy count last week. The prosecutor said doing so would remove uncertainty that could taint or delay the case.

Took charge of the US for hours, and we couldn't do a thing. Sounds like we need to investigate the Pentagon for their incompetence. But we all know the "terrorist" called for a "Stand Down" so they had the power. We were like new born kittens just waking up even though the Pentagon was hit 40 fucking minutes after the second tower was hit. Who was protecting us? How come there is NO investigation. I hope if anything, this kangaroo court will have to prove how they did the ENTIRE attack. I hope these "terrorist" have kick ass attorneys.

There is NO evidence. If there was, we would see a clear video of the Pentagon being attacked. Camera's up the wazoo, but no other video available. I DO NOT ACCEPT THAT! And I just can't figure out why most people are fine with it. Just think if your life was on trial, and the ONLY video they had was blurry. They did NO reconstruction of ANY planes. Where is the evidence?

Flight 800 that blew up over the Atlantic had a reconstruction, and what a mess that was. What makes 9/11 ANY different? There has to be more plane parts to reconstruct. How come they NEVER did a reconstruction? There should have at least been 2 planes Pentagon/Shanksville to reconstruct. Willing to dig in the ocean, Flight 800 but not willing to dig in Shanksville Flight 93?

I guess if American's will accept a incompetent Pentagon, why do a reconstruction. Who cares? Apparently the ones who think us "truthers" are nuts don't care. They will send someone to jail for life with crappy evidence like this only because our government already told them they are guilty. One doesn't want to look foolish in front of peers.

Yes 19 "terrorist" who plotted this for years couldn't even plan to fly out of NY because they couldn't take on box cutters. LOL! These are the "terrorist" we are supposed to be afraid of? "Terrorist" who fly over military bases instead of taking a flight out of NY. LOL! Yes what a fabulous idea. But go ahead, let us put these innocent men to death, because any other outcome will make us ALL look stupid.
